Yes, it was the 4000 series I was thinking of, but I still didn't like the sound of it and it wasn't very good at racking disks that weren't perfectly flat. An ex of mine owned a 4004 I think.

One shop I hung out in was tinkering with mounting a Paramecium cartridge on a 4000/4002. In the end it wasn't worth the effort.

What's the difference between Tangential tonearm and Linear tonearm?

Spelling mostly.

I thought about it too, but then I thought even further; about positioning (tonearm)...
* Those pictures from Gary have the tonearm at the middle right side of the TT. ...Linear drive TTs have them at the rear (right).
...And ClearAudio have them 'high', and back.

No matter what you call it the stylus tracks in a straight line from the edge to the center vs. an arc for a pivoted arm. Since the straight line tracked by the stylus and the arm remain at 90* then a true tangent is maintained. So between these two you derive linear and tangental. Same same, Yes?

Bob, a tangential arm and linear [tracking] arm are the same thing. There are a few ways to mount the cartridge to have it track tangentially.

And then there's the Gerard Zero100

Yes, thx John.

Thx Gary, I thought so too; but it was interesting those TT's pictures you posted, in their different tracking position.

Going to be here soon. :woot:
Thanks for a good friend of mine, who's took pictures, pack and ship it to me.
