Has anyone heard the Animas? Several members of the audio press are nuts about them. The all walnut version is pretty stunning in my opinion. I gave them a long look but they aren't the best fit for my amplification, so I made another speaker purchase recently. Still, I can live vicariously through others, right?

So, anyone heard 'em?

I love them, they are among my favorite horns. I have heard them many times, and if you go to what'sbestforum, The Sound of Tao has heard them too and loves them - his friend owns a pair. I have heard them with Modwright (not so good) and Aries Cerat integrated (from Cyprus, lovely). They do polarize some though, as they don't tick all hifi boxes. They go down to 40, and their bass integration and scale is not as good as the Trios, but their tonality, especially for brass, and realism, is better. You will have to go to Paris or Greece to hear them though, I think

Nice description. I've never heard AvantGarde speakers, so Cessaros are the closest thing I could relate to. The Cessaros were in an RMAF room for High Water sound, and they were stunning. Best system I've heard. Tune audio makes a matching subwoofer - a pretty mammoth thing in its own right. Apparently it integrates well with the Animas. We are likely headed to France next summer. I'd certainly seek out a listen.

I like Cessaro midrange but not their crossover or bass. Maybe their 250k full range five way does that. Same with Acapella. I prefer Anima and Trios. Trios are the best integrated and have the best scale in terms of width and depth IMO, when teamed with the bass horns. I don't like Duos or any of the Avantgarde below Trios. Anima and Cessaro are very different though.

I've heard that the Duos do have problems with bass integration, but I've never heard them. I'm limited to what I've read from Jeff Day and the like. The Cessaros I heard were the [FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]Affascinate I SE. I don't think that the music that Jeffrey played really tested their bass integration - it was more acoustic and classical during my visit. The sound was very clean and airy with wonderful dynamics, as though the performance was in front of me - very little to suggest that I was listening to speakers. The bass did seem well integrated from what I could hear.

I'm sure that one of the biggest differences between the Cessaro and Anima is that the latter is built as a full horn speaker, with the bass horn delivering lower frequency that is fast, clean, and tuneful compared to the active bass of the Cessaro and Duos. Was that your impression?

Avantgarde is coming out with their XD series next month. It features DSP for seamless bass integration. In fact, in January, they will have software for users to measure their room, send the measurement file to Avantgarde and get a file back which they load into the speaker for perfect bass integration.

P.S. Don't listen to the Zero's...it will leave you wondering why bother spending so much more on separates, cables, etc.

Yes I don't like active bass on horns speakers at all. I am going to check out jbl k2 66000 with three way active crossovers and subs this Saturday. Drooling already.

I have heard them several times & liked them better than I thought I would.
