I ordered a Totaldac D1 USB Cable two days ago. I should be receiving it shortly. I will do a head-to-head comparison with my Wireworld Platinum Starlight 7 USB Cable. It should be a very interesting shootout. Stay tuned!

Audition a Curious USB cable if you're on the hunt, I know a couple of TotalDAC owners who have since moved to them.

Keep us posted. I wouldn't be surprised if TotalDAC cable came on top.

Hi Adam,

I know you own the Totaldac USB cable, so I was wondering if you could describe its sound? Have you had the opportunity to compare it to the WW Platinum 7 USB cable?

No offense, Ross, but I'm not too curious about the Curious USB cable. ;)

Best,
Ken

Oops...my Totaldac USB cable won't arrive until Tuesday, December 22nd. I thought it was arriving tomorrow. I guess I'll have another week to listen to the Wireworld Platinum USB before I switch over.

The Totaldac D1 USB cable is in the house! I'll start the burn in process tomorrow. I can't wait to compare it to the Wireworld Platinum 7 USB cable. I'll use CDs in my K-01X transport as the baseline and the same ripped CD AIFF files for the USB cables.

Congratulations Ken! I can't wait to hear your observations.

Thanks Le Roy! I'm off from work from Friday through the New Year so that will provide me some time to get the Totaldac USB cable burned in. It should be a very interesting comparison.

Best,
Ken

It does need a decent burn in. I listened to mine out of the box and it sounds good, then pretty terrible after a few days, then much better.

The Totaldac USB cable is in my system and playing!!! :bananasplit:

It's fresh out of the box and my components aren't even warmed up yet. I'll post my preliminary impressions in a few hours.

Best,
Ken

Holy crap!!! Initial thoughts are the Totaldac USB cable sounds unbelievable. I've never heard anything even remotely like it.

Stay tuned,
Ken

Hi Rufus,

Approximately hour many hours before the Totaldac USB is burned in?

Thanks,
Ken

.... I'm guessing you're feeling you may be disappointed here...:D

I don't think I ran it non-stop but probably left it running overnight a few times. I came close to sending it back within the 10 day period I seem to recall as it seemed to sound quite bad after a few days or so, but it was just temporary. I've not read of anyone else who's heard the same so it could've been something else or my hearing.

Thanks Rufus,

I have just let it run overnight and I'll soon check how it's sounding. For the first 2 - 3 hours, the high frequencies sounded very edgy but then that went away and I was blown away by the sound quality. I'll be expecting more bumps in the road as it goes through the break-in process.

I've had the Totaldac USB cable playing for 30 hours straight. The improvement in sound quality on my computer audio is significant. All edginess in the treble that I was experiencing with the WW Platinum 7 is gone. I would characterize the Totaldac's sound as smooth, warm, rich, organic and incredibly musical. The soundstage is significantly larger and images are more holographic than the WW. Bass is rounder than the WW but still very pleasing. The Totaldac is very transparent with just slightly less detail than the WW. Images on some material are more forward than the WW. Listening to the Totaldac reminds me of listening to vinyl in a terrific analog system. In my mind, it's a knockout. The Totaldac USB has transformed computer audio through my Mac Mini. It is my new USB cable.
