Today's Jazz Playlist

I enjoyed this album after exploring some of the Qobuz new offerings in the Jazz section. Marc Johnson was a member of the last rhythm section for Bill Evans back in the day.

When this popped up on as new on Tidal last week, I thought, "Cool, new ECM." Looked at the track list and thought, "Standards? On ECM? Meh ..." Decided to play it last night, halfway through first track thought, "Okay, looks like this is a solo acoustic bass album. Kind of appropriate for the past year, but don't know if I can do more than a couple tracks at a time." Forty minutes later, thought, "Is that it? I want more!"

Growlin' Dan was in a soundtrack of something I saw recently, leading me to Salvant. Normally jazz vocals aren't my thing because I find lyrics repetitive but, as the saying goes, I could listen to her perform the phoneboook.

Count Basie albums are always a fun listen. Count Basie Orchestra always created a BIG sound with lots of soul, character, interesting elements and harmony of a multi-instrument orchestra happing all at once. Great talent.
