Hi gang, not sure if there’s interest (this thread has been “dormant” for a few years), but I thought I might post up a few Jazz albums and see if any conversation sparks up. :audiophile:

A nice Japanese BN re-issue playing now:

Thanks Don. Did you see the latest BN reissues?

And a recent “new” release on BN80 series:

Hi Mike, I have! I don’t have a ton of original Blue Notes, and I’m not super into chasing original pressings, so the (good) re-issues tend to catch my eye. Several BN75s, BN80s, and Tone Poets here.

in case you haven't run across this new release -- i find these takes "refreshing" ...over all, a well recorded and fun album

also, the play count of this one has been steadily rising on my system. hard to put my finger on why i like it so much but i do find it extraordinarily enjoyable...

at the risk of degrading the signal-to-noise ratio of this thread, i will post a third title:

the substitution of cello for bass in the classic jazz trio is interesting ...and, takes the sound to a quite new place. i like this one a lot, however, its not your father's jazz

;)

Thanks for joining in! I listened to this a couple of times when it was released, and... I didn't love it. I thought it was very interesting, particularly the melodic variations on the tunes compared to what was selected for the 1959 issue, but I strongly feel that they made the correct selections at that time and that none of these eclipses the originals. (I know, that's not the point.) Again, it's an interesting study.

And thanks too for sharing this, listening now.

totally agree -- i wouldn't give up the 1959 original either. but, having heard it so many times these "out takes" add a bit of interest to the mix. will be fun to listen to it a few more times and then go back to the original for a listen !!

speaking of dexter GOrdon, one flight up is certainly my favorite of his recordings ...and, very high up on my list of all jazz recordings.

the track tanya is, perhaps, one of the best pieces of recorded music i have heard. art taylor is just killin' it on this track.

I have that Cisco pressing. It is very good.

Stopped by the local record monger today for a few new ones. First up:

21st-century be-bop? Maybe, good stuff.
