Liberty Blue Note in beautiful shape

Just curious, can u or anyone comment as to the sound quality of an original blue note pressing vs. the new music matters 33's. as I have a few mm's, I know they sound really good, but do they outshine the originals?

From AllMusic.com
This valuable and attractive two-LP set from 1978 issued for the first time a couple of sessions by altoistJackie McLean that had been lost in the vaults. The 1962 date is fairly boppish with McLean being teamed with trumpeter Kenny Dorham, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Butch Warren and drummer Billy Higgins. The emphasis is on blues and straightahead swinging but even here McLean sounds like he is pushing the boundaries a bit. The later session features McLean, trombonist Grachan Moncur, pianistLamont Johnson, bassist Scotty Holt and Higgins. Despite some soulful moments, the music sounds ten (rather than five) years more advanced and is strongly influenced (but not derivative) of the avant-garde players. Despite being overlooked, the music on both of these dates is up to the high level ofJackie McLean's better-known Blue Note dates and is easily recommended to fans of the innovative altoist.

Just picked this up to replace my well worn copy. Nearly mint with cut-out for a whopping $8. A nice listen.

That's a sweet listen!

Absolutely one of my favorites.

The "Wonderful Trio" album is not mic-ed nearly as close (most especially the piano) which gives more ambience and a greater sense of environment and space (you can hear the room, more or less), but doesn't quite have the crisp articulation of the Misty set.

And since this one is not an SACD, it sounds a little better through the DAC than directly from the player/transport. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Comments of this album? Old style HH or the later funk/free/modal jazz style?

I can't really offer any meaningful comments, as this and an mp3[cringe] of Head hunters makes up my entire HH collection. Although, the music matters 33 of Empyrean Isles is on my wishlist. But of those three, desert island choice, (assuming equal sonics) Man-Child.
