Time to go peel the paint off Jeff's wall...

Interesting; when I mentioned "Twenty years from now, ..."; I did not realize that me too I'll be probably dead before that.
And now that I think of it, and that I'm also aware how much faster days and years go by now, I'm heaven more happier to be here, among you fine people. :)

I'm just wondering if you guys are still bemoaning the obsolescence of film in photography and medical/technical imaging.

One of my patients once told me life is like a role of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

I'm just glad that I can still get film for my old Polaroid camera!

What we were listening to today.

We had a rather spirited discussion - but we were all arguing the same thing. Yeah, we like vinyl. No doubt. But no minds were changed about anything. We still use digital (some of us more than others), and the convenience factor of it is unsurpassed - especially coming from a PC (fine, fine, and in rare cases a Mac).

But, building a collection of the music you want can be certainly problematic (costly/time consuming/lack of availability). And bad vinyl is just like bad digital - it makes your ears bleed.

So, the fun part of the day? Taking Jeff out of his comfort zone and plugging in a laptop to the AMR, listening to the PMC speakers powered by the Bryston 28b's and Aesthetix pre. And turning the volume above 40. Additionally, it allowed us to extend our wings a bit as far as music genre goes.

Dewey is already assembling his collection, starting with a very stellar something that is hard (and usually exorbitantly expensive) to come by. I can't wait to hear it. And I am praying his "plan" works to get the system exactly the way he wants it.

As an aside: if I still used CDs, I'd probably be damn near obsessive about vinyl - and absolutely hate the CD (even more than I already do) simply because it's a manual/physical process that gives you nothing in return. If I had to get my ass up every time I wanted to skip a track or swap an album - it better be for vinyl and not for a spinning silicon disc!

And good news: Jeff is starting to learn how to use his remote control(s)!

(ps: Mike - the attachment management is bonkers here - can you simplify it so we can get a direct hyperlink to the full size image to just bbcode in?)

A good remote control is probably the most 'touched' audio component of them all. If you can master one you're on your way to 'Movie Watching' and 'Music Listening' control in your life.

Just to find the perfect volume level for each movie and each album (LP, CD, SACD, hi-res audio music from your PC or Mac) is an art in/by itself. ...No way you can do that by standing next to your preamp, and afterwards by sitting on your preferred chair, or loveseat, or couch.

And yes, with LPs you have interludes every 20 minutes or so.
By comparison a CD/SACD is anywhere from 40 to 80 minutes.

The Bryston is a fine box - but it will not compete with a properly set-up PC.

And no, we did not a/b it. Barely had enough time as it was with all the conversing, vinyl-loving, and digital playback-ing we were doing.

Anyhow, if there were to be an A/B - the best contender would be the SilentBox that Dewey has versus the BDP-1.

Dewey, Jeff's already scratched my itch! :D I have a lil sumpin-sumpin that's supposed to arrive tomorrow...

I'm just curious about the digital comparison is all. :peace:

You naughty man!!:exciting: Not gonna ask, I'll just wait for the pics or it didn't happen.. :P

Emile, Dewey thanks for stopping by for a fun morning of tunes and talk......this get together was geared more for -E- to hear my Bryston/PMC and vinyl set up and for me to hear some digital stuff on his Emile's computer.....and to finally push Dewey to the Dark Side  hey congrats on your first LP.....Now you just need a turntable :) Emile.....I hope you enjoyed the Bryston/PMC set up and the LP spins, its to bad we didn't have more of the same titles to do a bit more back and fourth but never the less the computer stuff was nice too. I think we would all agree the Hell freezes over LP kicked butt :D
