Tidal or Qobuz or Both?

Dan, I can totally see where your coming from. If you have an extensive library, there’s more than enough music over the listening allotment of hours and days.

I don’t know about you, but I would guess 75-80 % of the music I listen to is by the same artists, which I also own and has been since I was in my adolescent years and with system greatness it only enhances the excitement of listening to the artists and tracks I know very well.

Albeit, I do like change and variety but in smaller doses, then comes the fact I’m about tired of hiring people and services having to still be employed despite the allusion of golden handcuffs - hope I didn’t get us too far off

So it’s Lawrence Welk and Glenn Miller only?

Sorry, couldn’t resist! Lol

I dropped Tidal. The heavy emphasis on hip hop and rap crap is a turn off for me. I discovered over this past year with Tidal I wasn't using the service enough to warrant the subscription. I am fortunate to have a very good library of music that I own and have no issues finding music to enjoy every day that exists in my personal collection. I can always re-up my subscription should I find I am missing it, but so far no regrets. I may give Qobuz a whirl if the mood strikes me.

I look at it differently. I don't think , no actually I would not stay in this hobby if I wasn't discovering new music on a weekly basis. Most of the SOS that I listened to over the years doesn't interest me at all. When I look at the play count in Roon for the albums I have sitting on my server I see that many of them have Zero plays. And remember I cull that music on a pretty regular basis. Only the releases I think I want to hear stay. New music/artists (to me) get the majority of my attention.

I also don't see the emphasis on Rap/Hip Hop that so often gets mentioned. Maybe it is they way I search for music that helps me avoid those genre along with Jazz. :D

I enjoy using Tidal (have not tried Qobuz yet). I agree with Dan in that when I look at the new releases page, most of the recordings listed are Rap/Hip Hob. However, I find the music library to be very comprehensive.

While I find my personal library at home to sound better than Tidal streaming, if is great to have the option to seek and listen to music that I don't own.

Recently, I have been listening to a lot of the Blue Note greats. I don't own many of these recordings but these are easily accessible on Tidal and, interestingly, in various flavors (red book, remasters and, some, MQA). To me, having access to libraries like these for $20/mo is a great deal. And, not to mention the significant amount of new artists I've been able to find on Tidal.

Someday, I may try Qobuz as well.

I never use the New release page, I use the 'Explore' on Tidal and pick the genre I want to see. There you see new tracks and new albums and other albums in that genre . Nice to explore new artist this way.

Qobuz from the main page just pick which genre you want to see.

Jim.......It is possible that my search habits on Tidal contributed to the uninteresting, untalented, and irritating artists showing up consistently. None the less, it was my low usage of the streaming service that made me decide to cancel the subscription. In addition, I don't consider my music library a collection of same ol' ...., well you know. I also don't cull my library as you do because there are times when I go back and play recordings I haven't listened to in years. To my delight I often rediscover great music lingering on my shelves. I have recordings I enjoy enough that I spin them multiple times in a month, and some recordings I could listen to every day. Streaming music is not a bad thing, but neither is enjoying an extensive personal library. My transports and DAC's consistently deliver superior sound quality, as well. The subscription fee is not a big deal if I actually used the service, but up until I canceled Tidal I streamed perhaps six recordings since the 1st of the year. There's no reason to pay for something I am not taking full advantage of. Can't say as I miss Tidal one bit.

I respect them, and have no problem with a poke but like you I love electric guitars and a self proclaimed “worlds biggest Hendrix fan”

Streaming still affords me my past catalog at my fingertips as well as new discovery.

Tidal also allows me a Veterans discount
