hi guys,
since i saw some of you guys and of course our big mike got them already or at least listen to them in different places and systems,
i am here to get some useful Info regarding some things i wondering about.

i have a 10 years old Avalon Eidolon Vision I bought second hand after i sold my Magico S1 mk1
cous' i felt it lacks the "fun factor" for my taste.. (it means he produced very little energy in the mid low and bass to my liking.. ) i always thought if it get one more bass driver to fill this hole it will be a perfect speaker to me. in the last Munich show (2016) i talked with Alon about it and he told me "just get the s3... It will be perfect"

since we live in a small country and Magico's are fairly rare in here, finding a second hand S3 was impossible and bringing new one were a bit off my budget at the time. so i got an old dream of mine instead (the Avalon) and i live fine with them...
they are fantastic speakers... but.. the magic of Magico still with me and now when i can effort the S3 mk2 i am thinking my way over (again).

my music room are very small but magical and builded around alot of knowledge acoustically wise, so i can bring fairly big speakers to play inside...
my real inquiry is about amplification
i am playing for the last 6 years with 4 x KT120 (a side) based mono blocks . those are custom made amps with some of the best parts known to industry, and i love them immensely! they output 120W continues up to 210 peak! in zero feedback (AB)
my question is are those will be suffice to drive the S3 MK2?
i have a friend who got the only S3 mk1 in the country and he said they were in optimal just when he brought his Luxman 900U!!
he didn't tried any tubes on his though.. not to mentioned something like mine... (though if i can remember correctly he did tried some Laben power... but it was a small 50w one or such)

i will love to here your thoughts...

thank you from advance.
(sorry for my english...)
A.

Thank you for the description of your system, you already have the most important element covered, acoustic treatment of your room [emoji3].

I do have S3 mk1s and am very happy with them. Like you, I also used to have S1 mk1s before the S3s and do agree with your assessment of them being a bit lifeless. The S3s are much better in that respect.

Regarding power requirements, Magicos do like power and you never have enough of it. I am running the S3s with an 175 wpc Ayre amp (350 wpc 4 Ohm) and they are adequately served. As an experiment I tried them with a 60 wpc Pass INT-60 (120 wpc 4 Ohm). They sounded great and the Pass worked fine, except with the most demanding orchestral works I felt they were slightly running out of steam - not in terms of power, but in terms of dynamics.

So, whatever you do, if using Magicos, more power is better. You will hear it.

i heard the S3 a few days ago at my friend house (he got them in his living room) with Luxman 900U
and they sound great!! really great! big bold and define BASS, texture, timbre and highs! the quiet and holographic way they image instruments, vocal and orchestra is superb, i can only imagine what the mk2 will do best.
that what trigged me to take the plunge for Magico once again. even though i LOVE my Avalon..but i guess i will adore the S3MK2 too
and its a good time for me to spend, now i got the funds for it.

my only concern i will be under-power and will need to make a big change with amplification...
if anyone heard them with some tubes amps it will be great to here about his experience. yours, with more power =the better - i got from my friend too..
so maybe its inevitable to make that change too down the road (!?)...

thanks again!

I have no problem driving the S3 Mk2 with a single VAC 200iQ (four KT88's, 100 watts per channel) in a 19 x 25 room.

Mike, are the VACs 100 wpc at 8 Ohms?

that is a great info!
my amps outputs more then 100W and my room is not even close to those measurements!
do you listen to some demanding orchestral work with this paring? i'm listening to a lot of classical music.
and i guess you tried them with some big SS too? can you elaborate on the differences is any?

thank you.
