The SHOW Newport coming in 5 weeks.

Then don't come dude. honestly, i'm not sure why you are coming on an audio forum to complain about audiophile candy stores (shows) and how they decide to run a show.

I'm not complaining on the whole (it's hard to show how one is not whining or anything in written word). I'm just saying my personal experience, "Personal" with a capital "P" and my different plan this time. I guess I can say that the first time I attended I made a mistake or did it wrong resulting in a not so pleasurable experience. This time I want to focus on the seminars as they are more my speed. I'd like to check out the Spatials and time permitting I may visit MoFi and other suggestions made. I won't attend if I can't get the time off obviously.
My experience is not like anyone else, all are different.

I ate in one of the hotels last year, by the pool. Not bad. Same venue was good for a beer in the afternoon too :)
Parking was brutal, so I wanted to avoid getting the car out once parked.
But this year apparently the parking situation is much better, so it's probably better to jump in the car and go to a decent restaurant (of which there are tons in the vicitiny).

I'd still maybe think about staying put if able as there may be more in attendance and you may have a hard time finding a spot upon return. There are some places across the street I understand that can be walked to.

The food trucks are hit and miss. I've had a couple of fantastic meals and one stinker. Regardless of the food quality though the aesthetics are poor

Last year almost every room could play CD's, although that wasn't always obvious (sometimes your CD would have to loaded into a music server).

I did not attend last year, must have been better. I don't mind having my CD loaded into a server, I'll take that all day.

food trucks beat lousy hotel food. ymmv.

the new location on Jamboree is close to many things.

That is true too depending on the hotel.
Yes, I found that there are some choices across the way that one can walk to.

How does this show compare to Axpona in terms of the crowd size and Exhibitors? I have never attended.

Feel free to come this year, David. I'll help talk exhibitors into playing your tape

I attended the Newport show a few years ago on the Saturday. Attendance was OK. AXPONA is very obviously the up and coming show, having grown substantially in the last two years thanks to good publicity and participation, and attendance this year was very strong. Still, if Newport isn't far out of your way I recommend it.

LOL. I won't be coming this year but I will in the future. Maybe I will get Skylab to join me since his brother lives relatively close by.

Depending on how long ago "a few years" was, the show may have doubled in size and attendance since then (both good and bad, of course), and it's definitely in a new venue this year. Someone probably has real numbers, but AXPONA could only be termed "up and coming" compared to Newport/Irvine because it started so much smaller.

Three years ago, as I recall. It was held in the two hotels adjacent to each other. AXPONA has grown substantially since two years ago, possibly nearly doubling. What are Newport's attendance and exhibitor count?

Was thinking of attending, but after scrolling through the exhibitor list I didn't see Magico or Sonus Faber..

Hey buddy hope you're well! I can guarantee there will be at least one exhibitor with Magico speakers there. I'm almost certain there will be more.

Scott Walker Audio will be there with Magico and Audio Element will have SF. That list includes dealers as "exhibitors" not the manufacturers they represent. I don't believe any of the attendance #s of these shows, but i seem to recall seeing a 7,000 number with 180 rooms last year. For instance- I think most of these shows count a 3-day pass as 3 people. And a lot of attendance is press/exhibitor related.

Apparently the new hotel has the best rooms of any show- its worth it to go just for that.

Thanks for the figures, KeithR. AXPONA said this year was a bit over 5000, and I think 120 rooms or so. All I know is we were packed most of the time. It was a great show for us, and we look forward to next year.

What Michael said.
Start googling the exhibitors on the list and I bet you'll at least see Magico if not near everything your looking for.

Uh oh...their speakers may not be to the likings of my ears, but I just noticed that Wilson will not be at The SHOW this time. They were always there before. Hope everything is ok.
Regardless of what my ears think, it's kind of disconcerting not to see them on the exhibitor list for the first time in SHOW history.
