The Right Timbre !

...the first quality of a system should be the rightness of timbre

I am referring to the tonality and texture.

Timbre is significantly influenced by not only the first-arrival sound, but also what's happening in the reverberant field. That's why we listen to piano recitals in recital halls rather than in anechoic chambers. That's why a guitarist might choose an open-back guitar cab over a closed-back one. Imo this has major implications for loudspeakers as well as room acoustics and how the two interact.

The best sounding gear often measures poorly and sometimes, visa versa.

When the measurement doesn't agree with an unbiased audtion, then we're measuring the wrong thing. Yardsticks that do not correlate well with human hearing can be counter-productive (THD being the classic example).
