A few weeks before I took delivery of 20.7s, I started hearing about "new feet". Crap I thought, don't tell me Maggie are downgrading those old tried and true metal feet. Funky but functional is about all I ever said, aka Funky-Feet. :(

I even went as far as buying a set of the old 20.7 Feet from Magnepan just in case I hated the new feet aka "Ovals".

As it turns out, the Ovals were just fine, much heavier, stiffer and all in all probably more costly than the original funky-feet.

I'm sitting around happy as a lark again with my new 20.7s, and then yet again, I start reading about spikes/supports/stiffeners etc and how much the sound improves. Crap  I'd been down this road before with the 3.7s...

The 20.7s are dramatically "stiffer", denser, heavier than the 3.7s, I just can't image how in the world these new things are blowing in the breeze enough to affect the sound, but hey, magical stuff is part of the fun.

I simply HATE the looks of all the aftermarket rear-girder-support arrangements fo Maggies. I don't have a clue on the aesthetic looks of things, but I hate those stands.

So, I figure I'll get partially crazy and build some spiked feet, more or less based on the original Magnepan feet.
...OBTW, the funky-feet for the 20.7s are about as stiff as a noodle, they weight about a pound each. they appear to be "hollow"...so, no hope of modifying them.

The plan was to paint the spiked feet some kind of texture black, but as can be seen below, I put them on in their raw aluminum form. Looks wise I really should do something with them... one of these days.

Finaly Magnepan as decided on a base worthy of their panels it's about time and IF you are into DIY lot's of things can be done to add mass to these bases , here is a photo of a DIY base for Acoustat model 6 built by a friend of mine the base alone weighs 100 pounds a mixture of granite and wood.

PS: The last 2 photos are mine all wood with a metal plate inside.

So how is the sound? Did the soundstage improve as well as transparency?
