So.... this is another product that was prompted by dealer and customer requests. A decade ago, I had developed a phonostage for myself when I couldn't find one that I loved enough. I wanted something that had the best of two phonos that I was designing/showing with at the time but none of the drawbacks. It won an award right off the bat.

Unfortunately, it is laborious to build and used a part that is "unobtainium", so it was very limited to 50 units. We've kept it "secret" as we did not want to run out too soon. It's been evolving with everything I've learned in power-supply design and with new components I've found.

My friend and dealer, Laurence Borden at Distinctive Stereo has had the Genesis Platinum on demo for years and sold a few to his customers. He sent his own demo unit to a reviewer, and it got another award. But we have less than 15 units of that left to be built because some parts will never, ever be made again.

Now, we have a more affordable version and one that can be less limited in production. Here's our official press release - there's a lot more information in the two reviews linked as I do talk about how I've managed not to need loading on a variety of cartridges.

Genesis Launches Battery-powered Simplicity Phono

Kirkland, WA – Following on its entry-level trickle-down technology Series 7 loudspeakers, Genesis Advanced Technologies is proud to announce the entry-level, trickle-down technology Simplicity Phono.

“I originally designed this for my buddy, Mat Weisfeld at the American turntable company VPI Industries,” said Gary Leonard Koh, Chief Designer and CEO of Genesis Advanced Technologies. “However, at the behest of my dealers and distributors who are not VPI dealers, I was persuaded to build a Genesis version. It is a good time to launch this as my Premium Platinum just won an award, but at $23,000, it is not really affordable.”

The Simplicity Phono is based on the basic circuitry of the Premium Platinum Phono which recently received the Enjoy The Music.com Blue Note Award 2025. The Gold Phono that originally implemented the phono preamplifier topology developed by Gary was awarded the 6moons Blue Moon Award in 2017. The Simplicity Phono is the embodiment of the tried and proven principles and technologies from those two high-end models but brought down to a more easily affordable price-point using batteries instead of a complex and expensive power supply.

“The beauty of Gary’s design that even a novice to record playback can have state-of-the-art reproduction,” Carolyn Koh, Vice President and COO said. “They won’t have to fiddle with complicated settings that can be really hard to understand. And the problem is that you never know whether you have the correct parameters set. I just want to cue-down and enjoy the music.”

“With the Simplicity, just insert 20 batteries, plug it in and start enjoying the music,” agreed Gary, “The Platinum is a bit better, but a whole lot more money. The Platinum is in the systems of many of my Genesis owners, but I needed something for new entrants to the Genesis family through the 7-Series.”
