I received my 2nd D'Agostino Momentum Stereo amp last Friday. Un-suitcasing it (they come in a suit case not a box) and hooking it up is not an easy task . . . . dang they weigh a lot.

I guess a brief description of my main system is in order. I have several small speakers (Raidho D1s, Magico Q1s, Wilson Duettes) that I use a pair of Wilson Watch Dog subwoofers in stereo with Wilson's controller (their word for active crossover). These subs are passive. So you have to buy amps to use with them. I find that I can match up the Dogs to probably any speaker but I know for sure to the 3 I have.

A little history. I started out using Parasound JC1 monos on the Dogs and Ayre MX-Rs on the speakers. I thought the the JC1s quickness and power would be great. And it was. Until . . . . I got the D'Agostino Momentum Stereo. And based on looks alone I decided to try using the MXRs because along side of the Dag the MXRs looked pretty cool. I was shocked that the MXRs did a much much better job with the Dogs even tho supposedly according to reviews their low end was their weakness. Until I tried this combo, I thought, and everybody that had listened to my system thought, that the Dogs integrated with the main speakers perfectly. It might have been good, but perfect was not the correct word, because it just got a bunch better.

Soooo. I knew at that time, when money allowed (sigh), I had to get another Momentum Stereo so I could use one for the Dogs and one for the speakers. Fast forward to today.

It is magical. Truly magical.

The second one is still breaking in, but after 60 hours on it now it is matching up very well. I've found that even though they aren't completely together yet because of the break in, that using one Dag for the left and one for the right channel is best. I'm obviously also getting the mono block separation effect also. I have only tried this on my Raidho D1s so far, I haven't put the Magicos or Wilsons in yet.

I know that there seems to be 2 schools of thought about bi-amping etc. (1) Using different amps, each one doing what it does best. For example, solid state for the lows and tubes for the highs. And. (2) Using the same exact amp for the lows and highs so that you get total continuity. I guess I have now switched schools. I am a believer in using the same amp.

Congratulations Jock.

Sounds like a great system. So are you using one stereo amp for the left speaker and left sub and one stereo amp for the right speaker and right sub? or One stereo amp for left and right speaker and the other stereo amp for left and right sub? Just curious.

I tried it both ways but it is sounding better with one for the left speaker and left sub and one amp for the right speaker and right sub.

Very cool Jock. How do the amps connect to your preamp? When I owned two Burmester stereo 911's I had two buy a pair of Y interconnect to connect to my pre.

Jock - that's amazing. Your system must sound superb.

OK...if you had to chose between the Magico, Raidho and Wilson's - what would you pick?

I think the Dag preamp has 2 stereo xlr outputs for 4 xlr cables. Each channel, I assume, get its own cable. Easy.

There are 2 sets of outputs on the preamp.

Seems like a lot of preamps are that way lately.
