I am going to post the silliest, most unconnected post I have ever done hers, so skip over it if you find it totally irrelevant:



How The Internet is Changing My life.

Months ago I posted that for the first time I bought audio equipment (SVS sb-13 ultra subs) without hearing them. I got the information from many of the trusted posters here and saw the reviews on other sites. I am totally enamored with these subs!

In 1985, in my the new co-op, had to replace the small washing machine. It would be the first time I would buy a major appliance. I immediately went to Consumer Reports and spent an evening reading and calling friends and neighbors for a bit of advice. I spent a good part of the next day going to a few stores to compare.

Now in my own house, on Thursday, at 11 AM I discovered that my 23 year old washer had bit the dust. I went to CR on line and saw three models I might like. I downloaded the INSTRUCTION manuals and quickly decided which machine was best. I went to two stores, got the best price, and was back by 1:30. It was delivered at 8 am Friday. So something that once took me two or three days, took a long lunch and that was it. I would never buy an extended warrantee,($400) but, because I had the manual, saw how one salesman lied to get to by one.

So time and again, I see how my life has changed, how stores and selling has changed and how the world has turned.
 
The internet keeps retailers and manufacturers honest. It allows the good ones to grow much quicker than they would have pre-internet. It ensures the less reputable ones are called out.

As for the convenience factor....its great.
 
It's a reality-check post Barry. ...And a great sub by the way; I don't have first-hand experience but read extensively about it, from both pro reviewers and owners.

The Internet has completely changed the way people are living. ...With all the good, and the lesser good.
We are a more informed people than ever in history.

We follow the world's evolution and we adapt to it. In the jungle some tribes have TVs now, and no clothing stores.

Let me expand a bit. The washer came with a ONE year full warrantee and ten year warrantee on all the moving parts (it excluded the control panel)

The salesman spent ten minutes telling what a great machine it was and when he saw I might buy it spent 15 minutes telling me how BAD is was…and I needed an extended warrantee. He said it came with a thirty day one and then, if anything happened I was up the creek. And then hen said that the manufacture’s service was horrible and their service was the best. Of course he didn’t mention that if his store went out of business I was stuck.

Knowing the truth, I walked out. But I knew the truth because I was so easily able to download the manual.

ONE MORE THING:
There are sites, like outs here, where people give their best opinions about products. These are people who actually use them. If people don’t like the D’ag amps…or if they do, they want to let you know. Same thing with washing machines. You can find good opinions.
