Robert Hartley, Editor of TAS wrote an editorial about 1 year ago about "Hedonic Adaptation" that I feel is a very valid thing.

In simple terms we seek changes to satisfy our need to pleasure ourselves and that when we do, a new bar is set. Our mind is very adept at changing our point of reference, the adaptation. Yet we still desire change, the treadmill side.
