I have a ghost (noise) in my machine to which I would very much like to bid goodbye. It’s a rushing sound like tube rush, but I’ve now had three new sets of good quality NOS tubes in there and it seems unlikely that they’d all be exhibiting the same issue. This rushing exists even when there are no inputs connected to the preamp whatsoever. Is there any kind of a preamp issue that could cause this? The preamp uses two 6SN7 family tubes; one for each channel. It’s a Von Gaylord LAD-L2 preamp. Anyone??

Sounds like the plate or load resistors need replacing. These resistors break down over time and develop a thermal noise that sounds like tube rush.

I have so much vintage gear around the house. That’s how I know. LOL.
