The Creme de la Creme of our Civilization

Nice to know about, thanks for the link. I get what you are saying about bad news.

I had an idea years ago for a daily news show that was ALL good stories showing the best of humanity, not the worst as all news now seems to be. I knew it would never fly or get enough viewers because most people just can't get enough bad news and terrible media coverage and probably wouldn't watch it.

On the flip side, a colleague once told me that when I feel that my life really sucks, watch an hour of CNN news and I will realize all is good.

Interesting.
Personally, I never watch the news, period. I also intensely hate the news media across the bored and even more so now than ever before. (I read a little bit of the news a few times a week, but then reject 90% of it as fake). I also never listen to or watch talk shows and such. I also intensely hate politics. I remember there was this one day at the radio station where they tried to get me to work with the news lady "for experience" and I went nuts on them and ranted for a solid 20 minutes on how much I hated it and refused to have anything to do with it.
I don't even have cable or OTA TV. Got rid of that years ago. Even with that though I still sometimes feel bombarded with bad news. (One hears stuff from all kinds of sources throughout a day, no matter how one attempts to cut oneself off).

What I sometimes do when I'm in need of some happier viewing...it's corny as hell, but I find some Huell Howser to watch. It may be corny, but I do feel better after watching. You have to find him on the internets these days.

News, only depressing news these days that impacts everyone around the world. From Ebola to ISIS and al-Qaeda this crap is not going away any time soon.

Agreed. If this was the 70's it would though, the world has gone too correct/mad.

oops - double post of what I posted before and too quick on the save button. So I had to erase. Wonky PC moment.

The first gal is news here in Philly. I like the fact that she thought her boss had won when she got the call.

I didn't put that together but do remember hearing about this on the local news. Where are you located Bruce? I'm in the burbs but used to live in NE Philly.

It was interesting who the judges thought were important enough to win the prizes.

I agree. There is too much of what parades as news these days, most of it ISN'T news, its just filler.

Finally, the cynic says, in the end we all die and the news doesn't matter. Do what makes you happy.

Hell with watching the news, put some music on, take a walk, read a book, ride a bike.

Not much you can do about world news or news in another state, but when news occurs in your city, then you might need to take notice.

Couldn't agree more. In my case though I don't even heed news in my own city 99% of the time. I don't know about it until way after the fact.

All of the sudden I'm reminded of something Micheal Fremer said during a turntable set up demo he gave at some show. He said, "When you go to set up your turntable, please make sure your in a good mood. Don't watch the news before hand......".
