We have to burn in a lot of cables in our business (MG Audio Design) and have found that the best way for us is to use Sheffield's System Conditioning disc interspersed with real music. You only need the actual conditioning tracks 1-9. You need to put as much current through as possible i.e turn up the volume without blowing your speakers in the case of speaker wires. For interconnects, we turn off our amps and just let it run. Ahh, no noise. I would much rather break-in interconnects than speaker wires- I don't have to listen to the damn pops and clicks on the conditioning disc.
BTW, we do have a well known cable cooker. It works OK for initial burn in, but we still finish with good old fashion music. The cable cooker does not seem to work as well for speaker cables as it does interconnects. We believe that is because the cooker just uses resistance while an actual speaker presents some level of reactance as well. Bottom line, we have found that a cooker will only take you so far and the rest needs to be done the old fashioned way- playing music. Hope this helps.
