The Beatles - Get Back

Love it and thanks Mike. Growing up and watching the movies "A Hard Days Night" and "Help!" you just felt they were a fun band. I'll be looking for more updates of course.

What I don't understand is why a movie with no new filming and no live actors had its release pushed back an entire year due to the pandemic?

There is people that do have to work to make make all of this come together, film editing to spice it all together, sound editing as well. And plus we don't know whom is going to be providing documentary for this. Can't wait.

Doesn't really answer the question I posed. However, comments on other Websites suggest that it is because a wide theatrical release is desired, and the hope is that by late Aug 2021 that may finally be feasible.

Peter Jackson's on words on why

""This film was due to be finished round about now, but like the rest of the world, it's been affected by the COVID pandemic," says the Lord of the Rings trilogy director in an introduction to the footage from the documentary. "The only good thing really is that we're editing the movie in New Zealand and now that our country has largely stamped the virus we're able to come back into the cutting room and carry on with the editing that we're doing. So, here we are, we've got 56 hours of never-before-seen Beatles footage, and it's great stuff. I would say we're about halfway through the edit now, but because you've been so patient and the film's been delayed until 2021, we thought it was a good time to give you a little sneaky preview of what we've been working on."https://ew.com/movies/beatles-documentary-get-back-peter-jackson/

Perhaps. Maybe I'm jaded, but the commercial explanation seems more likely to me

Rob-New Zealand was completely locked down during the pandemic until they were covid19 free. I seriously doubt this movie is in the can and they are sitting on it until the pandemic is over and people start going to theaters again.

Correct mep, a total lock down, New Zealand on March 26, 2020 went to their highest level, Alert Level 4.

NZ Alert Level 4 — Lockdown

Likely the disease is not contained.
Risk assessment

Sustained and intensive community transmission is occurring.
Widespread outbreaks.

Range of measures that can be applied locally or nationally

People instructed to stay at home in their bubble other than for essential personal movement.
Safe recreational activity is allowed in local area.
Travel is severely limited.
All gatherings cancelled and all public venues closed.
Businesses closed except for essential services. For example, supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics, petrol stations and lifeline utilities.
Educational facilities closed.
Rationing of supplies and requisitioning of facilities possible.
Reprioritisation of healthcare services.

I'm certainly aware of all that. Nevertheless, if this was supposed to hit theaters on Sept 4, 2020... you can do the math as well as I. More than that, I'd be hugely surprised if no work on this was able to be done during lockdown

I have much bigger fish to fry than to debate a conspiracy theory on why the movie hasn’t been released yet. I really don’t care. It will be out when it’s out. I’m not harmed in any way by the release date slipping in the middle of a pandemic.

True enough, and I have to admit I had totally forgotten that its original release date was last September until I was reminded by this YouTube clip

Rob,

I think you answered your own question, return on investment.

Are you so upset because you had a Beatles movie party planned that got cancelled? :-)

This year has really soured me on decisions by people and organizations putting financial return ahead of all other considerations.

So how do you actually know that this movie is being pushed out for money and not due to people not being able to work on its editing due to covid , You have some insider scoop or is this strictly your opinion. If its your opinion, well its an opinion and I can respect that. .

I thought I had made clear that it is my opinion; I feel it is based on some facts and deductive reasoning, although I freely admit I may not have all the relevant facts. I do have respect for Peter Jackson's work and am aware that he has not always put financial considerations ahead of artistic ones in the past

This year's been rough on everyone. Let's hope next year we turn the corner in terms of the global economy, this virus and of course, better audio equipment for us all!!!
