Teac UD-503

Yes you did... but as I said, I am learning... I am definitely someone who tries to keep an open mind! Been listening through the speakers some.... very nice, very nice indeed.... (after dam power outage last night :) )....
Good for you!

Enjoy.

The biggest problem is that here is not enough available in DSD. They need to start converting all the SACD albums over.... for example, Pink Floyd and The Moody Blues...

Another problem, I have a couple (only a couple for now) that I purchased in 96kHz or 192kHz that are available in DSD. I would hate to re-buy them again....
Get a PS3 ripper or go to the guys at AudioCircle that offer a free ripping service.

Most of my massive DSD collection came into being that way.

But does this not imply that you have the SACD to rip? And a spinner that can play SACD is the first place.

If they would simply start offering more of the albums for sale through downloads that they have already taken the time to convert to DSD for SACD. This is the thing. And it opens up a new market with very little overhead.

Yes and no.

Yes, you have to have the disks, no you dont need a spinner as they rip the sacd to computer DSD file when you ship the disks to them. You pay shipping both ways. If they already have some of the disks, you dont have to mail those, so you save on shipping bulk.

Of course, if you have your own PS3 ripper, that itself is a spinner than can play SACD.
DSD is the music files stored on a SACD disk.

There is no reason for conversion to SACD, as many if not most SACD were natively recorded in DSD. Sony has archived all their music to DSD, as tapes age and eventually fail.

I cant speak to why they take certain business decision.

Norm, remember not all PS3 can rip. They have to be manufactured before Oct 2007 and be able to play a SACD disc. After Oct/Nov 2007 Sony stopped SACD capability in the PS3.

Chris, I know, I have one.

Not only the age but it must not have been updated beyond firmware 3.55 and the compatible version have different model number in the US and EU, for example. 2 or 3 US modeal are compatible and only 1 in Europe.

For the sake of brevity, I just said PS3 ripper…meaning a specific type that has been certified to work.

Which is all cool, but the bottom line is hopefully, eventually Sony will see the logic in releasing most if not all of their SACD library tp downloadable DSD files. It does not seem to make a ton of sense to purchase SACD disks just to send them off to have them ripped. I would think that releasing these files to download purchases is an untapped market. Sometimes Sony just does not seem to have a whole lot of reason by hind things they do.
