Look what showed up today....

Two pairs of 2 meter TaraLabs 0.8 IC's.
One pair of 12 meter TaraLabs 0.8 IC's.
One Zero Gold Tonearm Cable

I've already installed the long run IC (replacing Wireworld Eclipse 6). What an immediate improvement!

Very nice Mike. So tell us how they work? I see some small plugs on them. Do they connect to that grounding unit and if so what's the story behind that?

Doug - they come with a grounding station. Its a brick shaped device about 3 inches x 3 inches. You just plug the mini bananas into the right slots and you ground the grounding station to a ground on your preamp or source or to a screw on one of the devices if a ground is not available. The ground from the grounding station going to a ground on your preamp is a spade.

Using the grounding station and not using it has a surprising noticeable affect. For example, using it, produces very very very quiet backgrounds. I can't hear a thing with my ear right up to the tweeter. Music just comes out of the blackest spaces. Very neat.

The cables overall have a smooth delivery. Transients are much smoother - especially on digital which can have that level of harshness. I love its presentation. Full and rich. I'm absolutely delighted.

Now I'm going to add some additional killer Shunyata power cables and I'm done cables wise. I really like Shunyata for AC and TaraLabs for DC for the Alexia's (thanks to Jock for this analogy).

Very nice. We don't hear that much about Tara labs on most boards. Except for the Synergistic cables I got along with my main rig, almost all my other cables are lower end Tara Labs. Original S, Quantum CX, Various Prism series and Prism Bi-wire SCs.

Always built well and perform well from entry level on up to your wires for sure!

Thanks Mike. That's an interesting concept with the grounding. It seems like this is the type of direction cable companies are going. I don't see any power distribution/conditioner/etc... in your sig. Do you use anything like that? I wonder if the effect you hear would be as dramatic if you were plugged into a Shunyata Triton/Typhon setup, or something similar.

Mike, it's always a goody to put some cables into the system & know you've done well. Haven't used the Tara'a yet myself.

Had a read up on the Lumin, for the money it sure does stack up at the mo!

I had Tara 0.8 and the RS-1 ICs and RS-1 SPC at one point. They mate well with Wilsons - at least did with my old Sashas. They were too dark for my Magicos though, which is why I have changed them to Smunyata Anacondas (SPC) and AQ WEL Signature (IC).

The RS-1 IC is a nice improvement over the 0.8, with more open top end, for not much more money.

Interesting thing is, that the RS-1 IC is more expensive the 0.8 IC, but RS-1 SPC is cheaper than 0.8 SPK. Makes understanding models in the Tara lineup a little difficoult. 0.8 is an older model they had in production for many years. There were plans to replace it with RS-2 a few years back (the cable was even on their website), but somehow they changed their mind (probably due to dealer demand and excellent reputation the 0.8 had) and kept the 0.8 instead.
