Talk me out of a devialet 200....

If we were to approach this from the viewpoint of the deeply entrenched backwards looking audiophile orthodoxy we would find much to deride, ridicule and condemn.
Fer heaven's sake, there's bloody Class D amps in there !!!

Now now, we have to be precise. It's Class A/D hybrid :)). You could either say that's the best of both worlds, or the worst...

Oh, and what's the deal with the remote? Real audiphiles don't need no stinkin' remotes. And SAM!??? Who names a feature SAM! Next, the company will have a name that most non French speaking people butcher...

From the Unofficial Devialet Chat Forum:

"In fact, the name Devialet derives from a fairly obscure 18th-century French writer, De Vialet, who was a friend of Denis Diderot and was involved in the great Encyclopedie project published by Diderot and D'Alembert.

The company chose the name because of the association with enlightenment and truth. And because it's French. And because it sounds good."

You know I was joking right? :))

Hey Jax....I just put my vote in for you and best of luck. Only 57 votes so far?? Come on guys.

I'll save my other vote for the 12's.:lol:

Like most things in my life , I came to this series of posts on the D200 kinda late but for whatever it's worth , I'd like to chime in as a D200 owner .

1. I love the crazy little pizza box . There...I said it. Feels like I'm at an AA meeting or something.

2. I recognize that for many Audiophiles , this presses all the wrong buttons. Somewhere on the musical journey , many of us (myself included) got far too hung up on the impressive rack , the dedicated room, the blinking lights and maybe the bling . If a Doctor needs 16 certificates on his wall to prove his competence and level of attainment , Audiophiles demand that the rack of gear perform the same function.

3. We all accept that technology and the Interweb is changing our lives in a million different ways, why should audio be any different?

4. Sonically, this is an impressive beast . I agree with Mike - the analog inputs with the exception of the configurable phono input are best avoided. I'm running a digital input straight out of my Sooloos Control 15 into the D200. Now maybe it's Meridian's apodising filters or something but the sonics are remarkable. Not in any way sterile . Very fleshed out and at least in my system, tilt more to the warm-ish end of the spectrum.

5. The SAM profiles make a BIG difference - just for kicks I hooked the D200 up to my Magico Q3's and selected the SAM setting for that model. An A-b with the setting switched off delivered a marked difference in soundstage , image saturation , timbre and depth. So there's definitely something there....

6. What I'd really like to do is to get a SAM profile up and running for the Raidho D-1's so I'd appreciate whatever help my fellow inmates can provide with a Big Thanks in advance.

I'm not able to post links so please go to the Devialet site voteforsam sections , select Raidho D-1 .
Thanks

Two additional points I forgot to add:

7. Some inmates may not realize that the D200 is capable of receiving a wireless stream straight out of your PC @ 24/192 . To my aged ears at least , indistinguishable from a physical SPDI/F connection. That's something remarkable in my book.

8. The credible word is that Devialet will be implementing room correction in 2015 . As a fan of DSP , that's a big possible future differentiator .

Cheers

You can also stream directly with the Devialet app on your iPhone/iPad.

I've had a 200 in my system for a week.

Still not convinced it's a replacement, but I was told to try some non-network speaker cables before I send it back.

Wish they had a display on the remote and wonder how it would sound without that filtered IEC.

Should finally be getting my 200 later this week! And I've wrangled Devialet to SAM-a-fy my speakers. Perfect timing. ;)

We live in hope.
AFAIK Devialet have been backtracking on suggestions of implementing room correction.
But they do like to surprise. It is more exciting to open your present when you don't know what's in the box.

I've read the Absolute Sounds review above and I am struggling to understand how the Atom Speakers which ordinarily have a frequency response of 45Hz to 30KHz can once SAM is switch on dive down to 25Hz (-3dB)? Can anyone explain this is possible in simple terms?
I'm with you, Kiwi. Sounds too good to be true.

I'd like to see the frequency response charts that verify this.

I have D200 and Magico S1 speakers and feel that there is only a modest increase in the bottom end frequency response with SAM.

Are you happy with the combo? How satisfying is the low end then?
