I was just looking over the new Stereophile list of recommended components and I noticed that T+A DAC 8 DSD was removed from the list. What was very curious is the magazine stated that the DAC was removed because the manufacture requested to be removed from their list.... Why would a manufacture request to be removed from the recommended list? Didn't this DAC receive an A+ rating?

I know the reviewer who reviewed it and even though he is not a DSD fan he stated that he considered it one of the best DACs he has ever tried.

I read that too and was puzzled. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the review basically said that it sounds best at 8x dsd. That could be a deal breaker for a lot of people if they do not want to use HQP. Plus you need a computer that can do the processing for 8x dsd.

But, the reviewer does not even have the capability of listening to it at DSD512... Jon is a friend of mine and he really only listens to PCM... and he wrote in the review that he has heard that the DAC shines even more with HQPlayer and DSD512, but he also stated that he has never listened to it as such.

Very strange indeed...

Just found out. It was the former distributor playing a dirty trick. T+A is not happy either.

What, is it still listed A+ online? In the print magazine it is listed as remove by request of manufacture. I am amazed that Stereophile would print that without 100% confirming with the manufacture themself. Also, what type of jerk would do that just because they are no longer a distributor? Almost seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Yep on-line I just looked, its notes removed. So weird

Mike posted a link showing the full text is now there in the online version. Unfortunately the print version is nto going to change... hopefully at the very least I hope they publish an update describing what happened next month.

Well a few seconds ago, this is from Stereophiles paid subscription service carrier Zinio which is where Stereophiles places the online subscriptions which we pay for. Stereophile should fix the online version, as well like they did on Stereophile.com
