It would be nice to be able to audition every component, every cartridge, every DAC and every cable in our systems and in our rooms - but that's not always possible and we often have to rely on the advice of others.

Have you made any audio related purchases which in the end exceeded your wildest expectations?

For me....it's the VPI Classic 3/Lyra Kleos combo. When I asked Fremer - he told me, "get the Classic 3 and a Lyra Kleos and spend the rest on LP's". He was right. :). It's a really good synergy between table/arm/cart.

My best surprise purchase has been by far the Shindo Giscours preamplifier.
It is by very far the best component I ever heard and it made my system reach a place that I never thought possible.

Surprised how much I love my sonos especially for streaming music from Mog or Pandora. My a/v guy interfaced it with my RTI universal remote. I have my home theater and outside hot tub patio zone. I have separate volume levels and the interface is very Ez via my iPhone or iPad. Not super hi fidelity for critical listening but just a pleasure to use when friends r over for dinner or parties

My Modified Sonos has been outstanding, but my Revel Studio2's have been my favorite surprise to date. They are not flashy. They may not have that wow factor of some speakers, but I am so happy. Nothing sticks out of the audio spectrum yet it's all there. They sound AWESOME with my Dartzeel (I was not expecting too much because they can be power hungry, but at my typical listening volume, they make a perfect pair).

Stillpoints E-Loops!
Not sure what e loops are but your about the 4th person I've heard recently praising stillpoints.
Going to have to look into them.
I was surprised recently first by how fat the zen silver reference2's are. And also I've been using a cheap borrowed CD player and the bass was big and mushy and I just couldn't stand it.
I replaced the aq sky with the zen and its far from tight but it tightened it up alot.
If they did that for this setup , then I can't wait to hear what they can do for the new table!!

Classe CAM600's. They do need 30 mins to warm up though and 600+ hours to break in. Then, very sweet and very fast.

Shunyata cables and power conditioner. Every piece of Shunyata gear I have added to my two channel and HT has made a positive improvement. I expect gear to sound good, but when power cords and other cables have the same effect as upgrading a piece of gear then you know they are doing something right.

No EL34's...Replaced them with 1963 GE 6L6GC's..very cool...

EL34's are easily replaced by 6L6GC's without issue. And the sound of 6L6's are sweeter. Like any output tubes, you should re-bias. The Velleman makes it easy.

Behind the front plate are 8 dip switches, 8 adjustment knobs (tiny pots) and a set of LED's. One at a time, you flip a dip switch and use the adjustment knob to light up the green LED (as opposed to the red ones). You now have the exact 0.4VDC

Easiest bias setting I have ever seen...
