With California having the third highest residential electricity rates in the country, why was that uncalled for? It’s just a fact. Hawaii and Connecticut are 1 & 2.

I looked at the McIntosh site and saw what they say about this.
I think they are more interested in keeping distortion down.
If you use a transformer (or autoformer) to couple a solid state amp to a lower impedance, you can get lower distortion. Any amp without such a device will have higher distortion driving a lower impedance.
If the taps at the output are used properly, it also means the amp can drive low impedances without getting into trouble with excessive currents in the output section. Since their turns ratios tend to be quite low, they can build fairly large output transformers that still have wide bandwidth.

I remember in the early 80's the dealer who's floor I drooled on most was a huge Mac fan. The thing he pushed in his sales pitch was the low distortion and how he believed it made Mac the best amps on the market.
He also carried Audio Research, Luxman, Conrad Johnson, Pioneer and Marantz. I'm sure there were more but my memory from this is challenged.
For speakers he pushed Klipsch, Bose and Advent. I tried all three of them.

They do actually put the various taps on their amplifiers with autoformers. The guys at McIntosh said that it would not damage anything to try the various taps and that some people in some systems do notice a nice improvement. To me, in my system it actually made a very nice audible difference.

They also have the highest solar panels rates in the country. In the complex where we lived every house gets them automatically. So their actual electric rates are among the lowest.
People also think they have the highest property tax. I can say for certain this is not true. Our house in California was worth about twice what our house in Kansas is, but our property taxes in Kansas are about 60% higher.
Obviously in many ways California is a lot more expensive, however in many ways the common beliefs are not accurate.

And even with all those solar panels we hear about the rolling brown outs because there isn't enough electricity in the state to meet demand - yet they push EV's which use even MORE electricity. SMH.

Most of the time when an issue happens, as it was in this thread, it is started by one or a couple of users throwing in snarky insults towards other member(s), usually with no connection to the conversation going on. When they reply back all hell breaks loose.
