I went to my friends house yesterday to listen to his system and hang out. He recently made a trip to pick up a couple JL Audio F13's v2. He has Legacy V's and was using Legacy subs, he wanted to use those in another area and move to JL in his music system.

Well, when I got there he had between the V's two columns of the F13's stacked 3 to a column and using JL's electronic crossover. The subs are back a bit not in direct line with the V's. 80Hz and below go to the JL array and above that to the V's.

The sound was good but not really the pressure of intensity I expected. I'll have to go for another listen he found he had a bad preamp tube and it completely went out today. I'm also sure a set up like that will take a fair amount of tweaking to get it where you want it. The subs and the Wavelet for the V's have room EQ with microphone but still......

The theory with all the subs it's supposed to expand the soundstage and allow for more subtle detail to be heard.

Was this in a basketball stadium? Why so many subs or am I getting this back to front. 6 113's?

If he would spread them around the room in a "swarm" configuration like Duke Lejeune recommends they would have the effect you are looking for.

I've heard the "swarm", a sub on each wall, and, agree, it's very effective, I was impressed.

Agree on the sound but just not as "impressive" looking when you walk in the room as the two triple stacks and can also be a wiring problem without a bit of planning. Apparently the JL guys recommend SE hookup but doesn't have to be anything expensive or extravagant. Something reasonable in price like Wireworld Luna will work and is thing enough to tuck under or around baseboards. Would love to try four but might be overkill in my room.

In all honesty. I've found that the less work (movement) that the speaker in the sub woofer has to do the better the sub bass. So having additional surface area to produce the sound makes sense. But . . . . unless you have very big room at extreme volume - stereo small 8" subs get you 90% there.
