Steely Dan New Live Album

Did Steely Dan normally play with a large group on stage. or was it mostly just Fagan and Becker? Like many (most?) of the '70's groups I didn't know much about them. I heard the Rickie Lee Jones cover of their 'Show Biz Kids' and the line "Steely Dan T shirt." Then in 2016, included in a large collection of master tapes I bought was 'Katy Lied'. Since then I've been able to collect high quality tapes of many of their albums and really gotten to like them. The most recent addition was Donald Fagen's The Nightfly. I hadn't realized that it was one of the first digitally recorded pop albums.

I saw them live a few years ago. Steve Winwood opened for them and blew them away.

Hilarious, but not as uncommon as it sounds , the same thing happened to the Stones when they had an relative unknown band by the name of Bob Marley and the wailers open for them ..

They were never invited back ....! :)

Yea, I saw Annie Lennox open for Sting and she slayed him......bad move for him
 
Saw Steely Dan about 5 years ago. Music and band were great but Fagen struggled to hit vocal notes.

Same thing happened to the Stones when the Outlaws opened for them.
 
I saw Steely Dan twice in concert and both concerts were very good.
 
In the early to mid-'70's, in their first incarnation as a live performing band, the touring group was a bunch of talented rock musicians. When they returned to the stage in 1993 they had a group of talented jazz musicians assembled by Warren Bernhardt. The touring groups in the first decade of this century were sort of a mixture of both and still usually pretty darned good. I'm not familiar with any of their live stuff after 2009; as has been noted there is no Walter Becker and Fagen's voice was noticeably fading even by the early 2000's.
 
I have seen Steely Dan 4 times and each time they were excellent. In the beginning he really didn't want to sing but his unusual voice goes great with their lyrics and that is what the people wanted to hear. BTW, Steely Dan got their name from a dildo in a porn movie....lol.

My very first concert at age 14 was the Outlaws opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Outlaws blew LS away both in the opening act as well as when they all jammed at the end along with Steve Marriott and the All Stars.

I just got 3 Steely Dan albums back given away in '87 and they sound fantastic.

Didn't Larry Carlton do a lot of their studio work?

Oddly enough, I am listening to Ana Popavic Live in Amsterdam and this track came on as I was replying.
