SPL Audio

Funny enough, we had access to them when they were distributed by Audio Plus Services (now Focal Naim NA). Then last night, the distributor called me pitching me on the brand.

I always thought it looked “too pro audio” to be of interest to our clients. Can’t speak to the sound. Don’t know. 🤷‍♂️

The amplifiers look interesting. High voltage PS rails and some type of hybrid discrete opamp circuitry. Sounds like the T&A equipment.

Looks a bit better than Nagra units

The SPL Phonitor was a well respected headphone amp from way back. Not sure how the current ones fare against a, now crowded, market.

I have not had a chance to hear. Future Audiophile has reviewed both the pre and power amps. They thought the units were a great value and the reviewer kept the preamp.

I'm waiting for a S800 amplifier and an Elector preamp next week. In Europe, the amplifier appears like a cheaper alternative to the ubiquitous Benchmark AHB2, less precise, more powerful and for some people with a less sterile sound.

Thank you for responding. I look forward to hearing your thoughts once you get it into your system.

Agreed!!!!! Nagra aesthetics are definitely an acquired taste.....
Find them (Nagra) gorgeous and unique.

SPL specs shows they are best at 8 ohm amplifiers , as 4 ohm loudspeaker will usually dip below and there is too much current limiting into 2 ohms for good bass control or dynamics..!

Just not a lot of info out there on the sound quality from reputable reviewers. One YouTube guy has the m1000 mono amps using with same speakers as myself. He seems to NOT be an audio shill. Curious minds want to know.
