Spendor classic sp200 loudspeaker

I would like some quads sometime but having a BIG black monolithic speaker in the front room just isn`t happening !!! my wife put up with my slightly more discreet logans for 4 years and that was enough .

I bought a pair of sp200s in October and I am absolutely in love with them. In the process of upgrading the rest of my gear and with every upgrade, the difference in the quality, definition, impact of the music is astounding. The potential that these speakers contain seems to be unlimited. I just read the review of the recent Quad speakers on stereophile and, while I have not listened to them personally, it would seem that they are totally different than the spendors not really having the dynamic range and impact. The midrange on the spendors is magical as well. As far as their ability to be driven by an SET amp, I'm not sure that would the ideal situation since they are big speakers. I have a pair of ARC ref 250 se's and they sound fabulous with them. I would definitely give them a listen

I had a listen to the SP200s at a dealer, they were streaming off a server into ML gear. I enjoyed them and thought they were definitely cut from the same cloth as SP100s (I've owned two pairs those). Its unfair to compare the over-all sound to Magicos as i've heard the Q7 on down in this room and all of them brought more resolution to the table but none were more listenable over Rock music for instance, these did a fine job with Floyd and Dire straits we demoed them with.

I have a pair of Kent McCullom’s restored 57’s and they are the most fun I’ve encountered with any speaker I’ve had the pleasure to own. They love tube gear and the midrange is to die for. Listening to them near-field feels like you have a pair of oversized headphones on. The music simply surrounds and envelops you.
