I'd like to see more active speakers on the lines of Dutch & Dutch with DACs, room correction DSP and amps built in. There are already a handful of such speakers but very few floor-standers. They offer big advantages over conventional passive or "old-fashioned" actives where an electronic crossover and 2 or 3 amps only are included.
What the buyer must be wary of though are cheap offerings where little effort is put into the design to produce an outstanding speaker, but instead simply plonk 3 drivers, amps and XO in a box and expect DSP to sort out deficiencies in the speaker design. DSP should be totally unnecessary with properly designed and carefully set up speakers in an appropriately furnished room. DSP should really only be used in particularly difficult rooms where the acoustics are so poor that excellent sound can't be achieved any other way.
