Speaker placement

Today I'm messing around with different placements. My car is getting some work done and I'm stuck here all day, so no better time than now.
So far the first 20 hours of breakin is going well. The speakers were only about 7ft wide and 8-9ft from my head. The soundstage was kind of moving around for the first day but hasn't really moved any since then. They tightened up in the bass a lot . I just moved them back to 11feet apart and 10'feet from my head. Speakers are a little less toe'd
Also . So they are not directly at my ears but a little wider.
This is very nice space. Obviously not as accurate as in and tight. But the soundstage is much wider .and I think I'm getting better separation from the background stuff this way. More testing is in order. Lol!! Not sure which I like better yet.
I've got one more place to try. Tighter together and further back.
Which might not be so great , but it makes my livingroom easier to navigate through.
I'll let you know how it goes. Any placement tips are greatly appreciated. First time since I lived here I have floorstanders and not monitors.
 
Well that's settled pretty easy. They sounded flat and boring that far away and spread that far apart. Think my first placement was best. Test over . Lol!!! They sound great where they started.
 
Speaker placement is everything, don't worry about how it looks or whether you can actually move around!

You'll probably lose the intimacy and focus moving them further back. I usually start with the triangle positioning and work from there. I know I'm getting close when the speakers start to disappear.

Over the years, I've found that break-in can really change speaker placement. So my recommendation is to find a decent spot and don't drive yourself crazy until they get broken in. It's where my OCD meets my laziness. :)
 
I have to agree with Jack. Wait until they are broken in before making any final decisions regarding speaker placement. Personally I prefer closer together and closer to me with little toe in.;)
 
Steve, try this as its a really quick way to get an optimal setup that will be very close to where they sound best.

Remember here it's up to you how much bass you want, so move your speakers accordingly to or from the front wall behind them.
Divide your room width into 1/4's, so 4 mtrs comes in at 1 mtr sections, at the 1 mtr point from each sidewall is the centre point for each speaker, start your chair with an equilateral triangle between the speakers & adjust. I like an isosceles triangle
