Hey all, I was wondering how members here break in their speakers? My former audio guy had a method where he turned the system on, set the CD player to repeat and left it alone for several weeks, only slowly raising the volume.

Another friend said no, do what my first friend does but just set the volume on a moderate level, for numerous week and leave it alone.

Finally, another friend who is breaking in a new pair of Focals, and has been playing the speakers for about 12 hours a day and 12 hours to let the speaker rest. He changes music styles regularly (Classical, Jazz, Rock) and slowly raises the volume gradually.....

Any thoughts?? AND, any different ideas are welcome!!!

Cheers,

I play some bass heavy tracks in a play list on repeat (Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas for example). I turn up the volume in the morning to a moderate level and then down at night to a soft level. When I have time, during break in, playing vinyl is a big asset. The needle on the record can make those woofers really move (which helps break in).

I just start playing what I want and let them break in naturally and not care how long it takes. I don't rush it. That's just my method, not right or wrong.

Outcast's The Way You Move on repeat (or anything else super sub-bass heavy as Mike says). I then alternate with some Pantera (or anything else with really rapid bass). Sadly, it is a painful process and all these machinations may not even make a real difference as hours and hours are really what's necessary. And, for my inpatient ass it's almost unbearable. The only thing to look forward to is, hopefully, a glorious arrival! :D

Here's what a lot of people like to do. Place your speakers facing each other close together, hook one of them out of phase, throw a blanket over the both of them, play music at moderate to high volumes and let them play24/7 for a few days.

Nordost makes a test cd that has a burn in track. I have used this before, it's basically a constant sweep of every frequency from too to bottom. It also has all of frequency test tones that can be used with a meter to see what frequency your system has spikes or dips. It's kind of cool, you will be suppressed what you actually can't hear on the very bottom and top. At least with my ears I could only hear about. 7k and 20hrz was barely audible for me.

My break-in procedure in four simple steps:

1. Turn system on.
2. Insert disc in player(or record on turn table).
3. Select desired volume.
4. Sit down in listening chair and enjoy the music.

Your ears will tell you when all is right in the cosmic audio universe:scholar::scholar:

My methodology mirrors CR141 and Music Director.

Plug em' up. Play em'. Then let nature take it's course.....

Three continuous weeks of Doug MacLeod " You can take my blues " which comes out to 500 hours transformed my Magico S5 beyond my expectations. Placed face to face speakers were covered with blankets and comforters, this did the trick while not disturbing my neighbors.

I just play music from various sources at moderate listening levels for the first 250-300. While I'm not home, I'll leave a tuner set to a station.
