Sound United Aquired

Wow that didn't take long. March 2017 Sound United acquired Denon and Marantz, in 2018 acquired Classe, and in 2020 acquired B&W. Interesting to see how a hospital tech company is going to oversee as a parent an audio subsidiary portfolio. .

A surprise move to say the least.

Masimo stock was down 36% on the news (losing $4.5B of market cap vs transaction size of $1B). Not sure how a medical technology company sits along with a portfolio of audio brands. I know Masimo are trying to move into more consumer type products but this seems a real stretch (and therefore why MASI shareholders are very unhappy).

Think this could end poorly over the next few years.

:disbelief: Perhaps they'll offer new receivers with built-in pulse oximeters! If so, we'll finally have objective measurements (oxygen saturation and heart rate) to track our listening enjoyment.

The CEO of Masimo must be an audiophile!

Could be from a article in the Paris News about the buyout " “I have long been a fan (and proud owner) of Sound United’s iconic brands and am honored to steward them through the next generation of technological evolution,” Masimo Founder, Chair & CEO Joe Kiani commented"

Ive been told that B&W was in some serious financial trouble. This could've played a role in all of this if Sound United just wanted out.

In my wildest non-invasive brain-monitored dreams I couldn’t think of a stranger match up. Truly bizarre.

Makes Bain owning McIntosh, Denon, and Marantz seem totally normal.
