Sonus Faber/ARC System

Jeff, although I like Sonus Faber, I'm not a fan of the Amati Futura's even with the ARC gear I heard them with. ARC by itself is usually a pretty good match.

Personally, I would never buy someone else's system.

YMMV.

Umm...especially not from someone; with NO feedback, and who only accepts cash :disbelief:

I wasn't suggesting I was going to buy someone else's system, and appreciate Chris's comment about not buying from someone with no feedback. I was wondering why the guy may be selling so quickly aside from possible stock market losses. Perhaps the ARC gear doesn't pair well with SF. Sound too soft, not enough detail, not enough punch in the lower end. How might it sound with comparable Focal speakers? Or Magico speakers or CJ equipment like Joe has? Or perhaps SF needs SS amps.
I know, go listen for yourself. Not that easy without driving 6 hours and not get to listen to all in a particular range. BTW, I put together my current system buying some used and some new and am pretty happy with it. Unfortunately nobody is able to tell me what they hear when comparing the Genesis 5.2 (what I have) vs the newer 5.3 and I am not going to spend close to 30K to find out for myself.
Perhaps Joe has heard the Amati Futuras and can compare them to his Strads? Or the Focal Scala Utopia 3. Magico S-5. Raidho D-3.
Other's opinions will help get me a directional path and perhaps get some new ideas also.

Who knows? Could be personal, could be financial, who knows? It is strange to see such a big system fire sale.

The Strads are from the old master himself, Franco Serblin. The Amati Futura is the first attempt by the young guy who took over for Franco, Livio Cucuzza.

The Amati Futura is one of the best LOOKING speakers, but sonically, not one of my favorites. I've owned several pairs of Sonus Faber's, including Strads, Aida's, Guarani Evolutions, etc.

Come on Mike, give me more. You have had or heard just about all. Compare the SF of your choice to the Focal comparable model. What power do they like?

SF's have a very rich, "colored" sound due to more cabinet resonances and choice of drivers which produce a beautifully rich, warm, romantic tone. You tend to hear less amp character and more speaker character.

Focal's are more neutral, striving for less cabinet resonances, more technically sophisticated drivers and tweeters, sonically balanced top to bottom and sound more dynamic. You tend to hear more amp character than speaker "colorations"/character.
