Someone’s music room was better than mine

I was today visiting someone’s private music room to listen to music, and it was outperforming my room setup by a mile. We listened to some classical baroque music, mostly Vivaldi.

Well, it was a live performance, maybe that’s the reason. And his music room was a bit larger than mine, fitting approx. 400 people. Also, the entrance hall was probably bigger than my house. Actually, the concert was at Villa Hügel in Essen/ Germany.

The music room belonged to Alfried Krupp when he was alive, who was one of the wealthiest German industrialists at the beginning of the last century. Thus, I am not even embarrassed [emoji3].

I can imagine your thinking well I would install a dedicated circuit there, speakers here and placement of my rig there

Kuoppis, I have family living very near Essen.
Seems like a wonderful hall for baroque music!

Bart, it was indeed a superb venue for listening to Vivaldi. Pristine experience for both, the ears and the eyes.

Room treatments?

In this case, room treats were canapés & champagne.

Otherwise there was wooden paneling as diffusors and decorative rugs on the walls absorbing sound, and the arched ceiling preventing hard bounce backs of echos.

For baroque, and classical in general, the concert hall or room musn't be too dead.
The music was not composed to be performed in overdamped spaces.

Agree. The piano predecessors, Cembalo and Spinett, popular during that time, have a quite delicate and faint sound.
