Really nice Mike! Diffusers and speakers!! :coolyeah::coolyeah:

Excuse my ignorance but when would you use A diffuser and when would you use absorption?

I normally see absorption on the sides and behind the speakers and diffusers on the back wall.

Great questions! Very room and speaker dependent as to when you use absorption or diffusion. Generally speaking, you want diffusion when possible. That being said, a bright tweeter can be tamed a little with absorption at first and second reflection points. I personally prefer rear and side wall diffusion over front diffusion.

Subs

Last year I was together with my wife in AG HQ to listen to Trios with subs compared to Duo Mezzo G2.
Our common opinion was that Mezzo's presentation was more homogeneous , the Trios with subs lacked integration between woofers and horns.
What' s your impression?

Marslo - the Trio's sounded great. They were circa 2001, so not the latest by a long shot. He just got them (replacing Sonus Faber speakers), so his system is optimized for leaning out sounds (Meitner DAC, cabling, etc.) His amps are terrific, but not the best match for AG's IMO. We are going to start experimenting with some tube equipment, different cabling, Lampizator DAC, etc. The system is dynamic, but very dry and a little lean sounding.

In January or February we are making a trip together to the distributors to hear the AG Trio XD's. He's already so in love with the AG sounds that he's wanting the latest version.

There is no doubt the Trio's have the potential to best the Duo's, but they require a HUGE room - at least 18 feet x 24 IMO and they require no less attention to amplification, cabling, sources, etc. But if you have all the pieces in place, I can easily see how they are some of the best sounding speakers in the world.

That being said, I don't feel like I'm giving up a lot with my Duo Mezzo XD's IN MY ROOM.

The diffusers are broadband. The ones on the front wall go from about 250 Hz to over 18,000. The rear wall go from about 450 Hz to the same calculated over 18K. To answer the one question generally you really want to diffuse at least either the front or rear wall. If possible diffusion both is my preference, but in some cases some absorption on either the front or rear wall would be preferable. A general thought is to use mild absorption on the so called 1st reflection point and more aggressive absorption on what is referred to as the second reflection point. The corner "bass traps" are my patent-pending units that show repeated measured in room effectiveness broadband down to 27 Hz. It's important to remember that each room is different and get someone experienced to make recommendations. Sense it's launch two years ago this coming April Resolution Acoustics has been fortunate enough to participate in 6 awards at shows, the latest being the NY show.

Thank you. I also look forward to seeing the room you are doing for The Sandman (Howard). My Resolution Acoustic treatments absolutely embarrassed my previous stuff.

Thank you Mike, I agree with you that Trio's driven by the right amplifier might sound wonderful.
The best presentation I have heard was in Munich with 2 basshorns and Vitus power amp from Masterpiece series.
Your room with Duo Mezzo XD and acoustic treatment looks really impressive , congratulations.
It must sound even better than it looks :)

What Sonus Faber model has been removed?
A friend of mine let me try, a few years ago, his Extremas in my living room for a week or so, and I found them phantastic (he took, in exchange, my Mission 767s together with the LFAU unit + PSX additional power supply).

He had the SF Stradivari Palladio 13 of 25 made worldwide. They are now on Agon asking I think 25K negotiable.

Thanks a lot.
I'm affraid they are at too asking point for me.
I purchased most of my gear in the early '90s, and only the Luxman DP 07/DA 07 combo and the Missions were (and still are) unique in their class.
Those days I could afford that type of equipment. Luckily for me, all are in mint condition. [emoji18]
