Some questions for my fellow Triode Corp TRX-M845 owners/lovers ....

I know I can be a bit stubborn. Either my amps are finally starting to break in, switching over to the RCA inputs or both things has been a bit of an epiphany. :scholar:

I've sort of thought I was experiencing too much hiss or tube noise. I am still mostly stock tubes except for the 6SN7's and 12AU7 input tubes.

Today I finally switched to the RCA inputs and even went down to 0dB feedback. Holy cr@p! An immediate improvement. So damn quiet now it feels as if my Conrad Johnson gear was noisy as heck by comparison. I have to be an inch or two from the speaker to hear anything at all from the amps. I've been told break in really helps this too.

I can not believe my ears. Ballsy, quiet, tremendous 3D and air from these SET amps is freaking outstanding. I felt it was really good before, but something really clicked today that leaves me shaking my head and truly realizing how awesome these amps really sound.

So for some help ....

What preamp are you using?
RCA or XLR?
Feedback setting?
What tubes are you using in the amps? Driver (845 always) make and version, output (211 or 845) make and version, 6SN7, 12AU7?

Right now my drivers are the stock 845's, stock 211 outputs, 6SN7 Psvane Globes, and 12AU7 from a friend (forget brand).

What's your setup for the TRX-M845's to maximize performance?

Thanks!

Joe, i shud have answered these questions for u long ago

negative feedback - ZERO
only rca's
Elrog 845's ( just got them absolutely awesome .... AWESOME) - driver and output!
6sn7 - RCA JAN CRC 6sn7 GT
12au7 - TungSol JTL 581A

using the matching Junone preamp

:exciting:

Thank you so much. Maybe we discussed this in passing but sometimes I'm slow on the uptake. I've been experimenting on my own and have come a long way. At least this information, digging deeper into a few reviews and a little trial and error has been very enlightening - and ear opening. :)

These amps really are special.

I have to say that I was pretty much up all last night.

What I absolutely love about these Triode M845 amps is the utmost space and clarity between voices and instruments. It is uncanny how little sounds float in front of the speakers and how the amps fill the room with sound. There is truly a wonderful three dimensional sound that grows from the speakers yet does not give notice to them. It's like the music just exists around the room. Bass is full and powerful while being articulate.

I don't even have "the best" tubes in yet and something just fell into place.

The old cliche in this case is absolutely true - I really am hearing things in recordings that I've never heard before. Little things that usually go unnoticed are clearly heard.

I loaded up a bunch of Tidal Masters and would think of another song or album and add it along the way. I couldn't take myself away from the music.

I love and need the convenience of solid state but there is absolutely no substitute for a well executed tube system.

Joe - this is great news! The TRX-M845's are always sounding great at shows. I absolutely love my TRX-M300's and have had them 2 years now combined with the matching Triode Junone preamp.

pweg - have you ever compared the Elrog 845's to the KR Audio 845's??

I love the Elrog sound with the 300b's when I had them. Right now I'm using all Western Electric in each amp: 300b, 310a(2), 274b.

My local Viva customer keeps offering to bring over his Aurora amps, Linea preamp and Fono (coming soon) to try on my AG's. That could be very dangerous!

By the way, these speakers with Viva 845 amps at Munich were KILLER good: http://vivaaudio.com/en/products/allegro/

Video here:

Those Viva speakers look awesome. I bet that combo is great.

no - we dont have a lot of choice here in oz for tubes.

i dealt directly with Thomas Mayer (Elrog) and he was such a delight and so professional i had no problems buying sight unseen and unheard.

Hi guys thanks for accepting me into the foro ... I am having the same problems with the triode 845 .. they are great but .. without music the speaker are noise and do not know in your case but the inlet transformer make a bizzz small and just hears when you are very closer to them ... .. I have just 4 week with them ,.. not tubes changes yet .
on other hand when they play the are amazing.
any help you can give will be great ?
The feedback setup is 0.

thanks

Welcome to the forum Yana, thank you for joining.

What seemed to work for me was to NOT use the balanced inputs, ONLY the RCA inputs. It was extremely quiet using the RCA inputs.

I also noticed that when I replaced the tubes with all Sino 845 ($99 each) tubes, it was the absolute quietest of all time. And those were the least expensive of all the tubes that I had.

I loved the sound of feedback setting of "0", it was the sweetest and most 3D of all.

Hi joe thanks for your reply , the noise is the same with any RCA or XLR , even without them .. it is zzzzz that is hear when is it not music playing.
my speakers are 95db sensibility so any small noise is hearing with them.
i would like to take that noise which I know is normal en single ending amps but in that case si more than I was expected.
any other feedback
thanks

joe, more questions ,
when did you see the changes .. Changes all the tubes ? The 6sn7 and aux7 first ?
The noise decreased when you finished to burning up the up , how much time it take ?
Thanks again.

I have a matched quad of Elrog 845 for Joe if he wants them! I agree - just outstanding!

All the stock tubes sounded great but even with using the RCA inputs and zero dB of feedback, there was the smallest amount of hum to the speakers. I had replaced the 6sn7 with a fancy globed version from psvane and replaced the 12au7 with a nice nos tube. I forgot the names but can look it up. After I discovered the inexpensive Sino tubes, I bought a matched octet giving me 2 spares. I put those in and immediately noticed it was absolutely dead quiet.

To be honest, I was afraid to touch the hum balancer pots. I didn’t understand where they were set and where they could be set to do what they do. It’s not like a bias control and aiming for a certain number.

I had better luck with lower sensitivity speakers and found my Studio2 at 86-88 dB were a better match.

When you start getting into that power range, I too find better matches with average sensitivity speakers.
