My Gold Lion KT88 reissues are approaching end of life, over 8,000 hours. Been thinking about these but I heard they aren't quite as reliable or long life as the Gold Lions?
I will need at least 6-8 quad sets to drive my 3 X Mc2301s or at least enough to power 2 of the amps at minimum.
What do you say?
Worth a try. The sound was different than the GL's. My two cents is to stick with the GL's. When I did the KT88 shootout, I felt the GL's were best of the new tubes. In fact, the large tube amp manufacturer close to me is now using the GL's.
If you want to experiment Steve, definitely do your home work. The reliability of some of the Chinese and Russian tubes isn't great - except for the GL's.
The market is desperate for a great KT88 again from someone like Emission Labs, KR Audio, Takasuki or even Elrog.
