Shopping for a Smart Phone - Suggestions requested - Ideas?

Bob,
What about the 5? It is the 5s minus the fingerprint (fancy but not crucial I would say). Maybe you'll find one for 499 and yes it is worth every cent. I have one Android device and although it is working fine I don't have the feeling with it. If I didn't want to go with Apple I would probably go for a Nokia with Windows.

Awesome stuff...side note...I just hope T-Mobile and Sprint don't merge. Why ? We need separate competition or there will be chaos in pricing. T-Mobile is what is keeping Verizon and ATT in check...also I don't know how they ever could...they use completely different type (incompatible networks) unlike ATT and TMO which would have been seemless.

Bob - go spend some valuable time playing with them all. Ask your questions. See which one is the most intuitive to use. Which one you would like to use everyday. Explore the apps. Search for apps you may really want to try. Nature apps? Bird lover apps?

At the end of the day, its a personal thing!

Mike

100% with you Mike. . ..I do love this thread though. ...Full of cool stuff. :)

How's the hunt going, Bob?

I talked with my little (younger) sis earlier today; she agrees that $129 is plenty for a smart phone (Nokia Lumia).
But I still have to hit the stores yet. ...And check them out up close and personal. ...I'm still inclined towards the Samsung Galaxy S3, but I'll check some Nokia Lumia models too. ...And the iPhone 4S. ...HTC. ...LG Nexus. ...All.

* I want a screen that is roughly 5" in diagonal; but I'll see if a 4" screen can still do it for me.

This is very fun so far, and as long as it remains fun then I'm on the right track. :)

I'm starting to see some light; and Nokia Lumia seems to offer the best value.
Also I didn't know anything before I started this thread about the HTC brand; I want to check that one out too.
{My best friend has an HTC one right now; he broke the screen accidentally, but got it replaced, for free.}

I have the HTX 8x...my wife has the Lumia...they both perform awesome BUT her camera blows mine away...I think Nokia's thought with their phones was BUILD a phone around a camera instead of as a feature. This is not such a bad idea since phone camera pictures today far outstrip regular camera pictures by a wide margin.

Who would have thought ?

Nokia Lumia 520 on order now ($99). ...In Canada, with my phone company, it's free, with my credits. ...And NO CONTRACT!
{In the US it is only 60 bucks.}

Is this a good move Rob? ...It has Windows 8, a 5Mp camera, a camcorder (720p HD @ 30fps), Wi-Fi, a 4" WVGA TFT LCD display, 4G (speed) dual-core processor, 8Gig, RAM (must be a beast inside), Bluetooth, a Phone Book, a GPS navigation system, Google map, Multiple languages (including French :cool: ), Music, Movies, I can order pizza from it (with free delivery), and so many other things that I just don't know what to do with them all! I can even watch youtube videos! ...That is totally nuts for just a portable phone! Life's just too short to explore it all!

* What's the difference between the 520 and the 521, is there one better? ...I hope I got the best. :)

Yeah, when I'll get it I have to call back my communication service provider for activation, so I'll make sure that the Nokia Camera is on and Refokus. ;)
{...Only by mail that I can trade my credits.}

By the way, my LG flip phone; I use it on average a dozen times (few minutes each time) a year!
So that's why I went for something good (thx to Rob), and inexpensive. ...And with some' I'm already familiar with (Windows).

Apple? ...Perhaps in another lifetime.

___________

P.S. Lumia; sounds almost like Lumin. ...Hope there's a good DAC in my smart touch phone. ;)

Sorry for the delay..You will LOVE the Nokia...I like my wife's better than my HTC though my HTC is slightly slimmer. Her camera KILLS mine

Rob, the 521 is for certain regions and service providers only. Here for me, it's the 520; which I should receive Wednesday or Thursday or Friday. The 521 is pretty much the exact same phone as my 520.
...All together after taxes plus SIM card: $122 (which they simply deduct from the total of my credits). * The camera is a 5Mp one.

I was also looking at the Samsung Galaxy S3 ($450 before taxes). ...8Mp camera, 4.8" AMOLED screen, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1080p resolution, ...
...And the HTC One (but not avail with my service provider). ...Nice phone though, nice reviews too.

* The Samsung Galaxy Note3 was a little too expensive at the moment.
...Same for the Nokia Lumia 1520.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 was $700 for me here (a little too much). ...13Mp camera, 5" screen, quad-core processor, ...nice reviews.

At the end I went for value first, and eventually, two years or so from now, a bigger screen (5" or so), and a faster/better processor.
This is new territory for me, I learn with the Nokia first, and grow with my transitional entourage with verve and happiness, til I die.
Money is of no importance, peace is. ...And health.

Thank you for all your help and support. ...And we all shall keep up with the latest technologies; as it changes rapidly every six months or so. ...Apple iPhone 6 in June.

Rob, or anyone else, what do you think of the Motorola Moto G? ...Android system.

...Better than the Nokia Lumia 520 and 625?

Another question: Both Nokias have a memory expansion SD card slot for up to 64GB, but not the Moto G (8GB internal).
Is that important, something to consider?
