Shocking hearing tests...

I did the first part. I could barely hear 22khz and I'm not young. In fact, I'd venture to say that I "thought" I heard something at 22khz. Everything before that though I could hear clearly. However, this is the interwebs, so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

I can barely hear 15 kHz on the first test. On the second test, I have a 12 db slope with low frequencies having to be louder than high. I'm surprised since I have pretty bad tinnitus in both of my ears from being stupid when I was young.

I used a cheap set of Sennheiser headphones for this test.

You heard that high ? Hmm...I thought only teens could hear like that..

yeah…..sure you did !

that's more like it !

as we will with your hearing !

I took care of my ears throughout life, so I guess that is why. I never did the standing next to the speakers thing at concerts, always wore plugs after the first time and I don't turn things up loud. I also needed my ears for my jobs in the field (of course I did not know that when I was a teen, perhaps sub-consciously). That said, I'm sure now that at least the 22KHz is in question.

Not sure those tests are reliable. Profesional hearing tests are made on a calibrated equipment, in a special sound proofed rooms, with noise floor way below that possible in a house.

I have once undergone such a test 2 or 3 years back, and my hearing was almost perfectly flat up to 16kHz or so, then gradually rolled off. The doc was impressed ;)

Question: don't y'all mix up the capability of your ears with the range of your computer speakers? :snicker:

An interesting test is a frequency sweep that you use for room measurement. You can just notice the sensibility of your hearing going down in the highest frequencies. Wanna try?
Here you can download the test signals. If you download the free software from the same page and invest a little money in a microphone you can at the same time measure your room acoustics. If you are interested I can advice you what you need and help you do the measurement.

I see no reason for personal attack just because I always took care of m ears. You don't know me and never will as I will never know you.

MD, it was not a personal attack ! just merely myself stating that I don't believe you………….simple as that ! I don't know you or how 'old' you are, but you claim to be old, so that is my reason for not believing your claim.

I'm hearing impaired and use hearing aids for socializing, movies, tv, and critical and pleasure music listening. Roll off ramps down rapidly past ca 4k, everything tends to sound muffled and distant without the little wonders installed.

Sadly to say I also use hearing aids.Once you get used to them there is no going back. Happy to offer anyone my experience with aids.
