I love Shindo system pics. Here's my shot of the day. A temporary set up while I dial in my new EMT. Please excuse the crappy iPhone quality. It's just so easy to post from the phone!

The picture is of an Aurieges phono pre in front on a VR preamp. In the back left is a Lafon GM70. You may also notice the brass Shindo Swan Tonearm Cable Muching Router, Ltd. (extremely).

Thanks Kev. Teach me something. Why would you want the Aurieges phono pre ? Is it sounds better than VR phono stage ? If so how about to compare with Auditorium A23 SUT ?

Also why your VR Pre amps knobs are different than other VR pre amps ?

The Aurieges phono has additional equalization curves and allows me to play 78s. I don't know how it compares to the A23. I use cartridges that are good impedance matches with the stock transformers - Ortofon SPU and low impedance version of the EMT. I'm sure the A23 Hommage is much better. If I used a tsd standard, I'd look into a change.

As to the knobs, mine is an earlier version. They changed maybe 1-1/2 or 2 years ago?

Thanks again Kev. I heard the shindo set with the Bardo/Reed2a/EMT/A23 Hommage set up. That was great.

Nice. I had a Bardo for a few years with a Graham Phantom and a zyx. Great table. I can't really speak for the motor, but the build quality of the table is unreal.

Kev. Do you think the SME would be good match for the shindo as well ?

SME tonearm or an SME table?

That is essentially asking whether the tonearm would allow you to use cartridges that are compatible with Shindo. For my taste, the sme 3009 and 3012, compatible with the ortofon SPU, are good matches. The earlier versions of the arms or "R," not the series 2/ improved.

As to the table....it's just not my taste. It may work well. I prefer vintage high torque idlers and currently have a garrard 301 and 401 (301 is in hifi storage with my teres). As they say, good drive. Explosive dynamics. They complement the voice of Shindo quite nicely.

Kev- Have you heard any new tables that you feel would compliment a Shindo setup. In my case, Shindo w/ Orangutan 0/96's. I am running an Amadeus GTA, but have interest in the Luxman PD 171. It will soon be available in a version where you can chose an alternative to the current Lux modded Jelco 250.

Don, I love my Luxman PD 171. Amazing build quality, great vintage look and total synergy with an all Shindo set up. Great sounding table.

Luxman looks great. Truth be told, the Brinkmann was great. I'm just not interested in it anymore aesthetically. But Simon Yorke, DPS, TW, and Spiral Groove tables would all otherwise look interesting to me. I've only experience with the Brinkmann and I have no reason to believe it wouldn't be great with Shindo. It simply isn't what I'm going for. Oh....Verdier too. I had a Verdier for a few years. I wish I kept that one! When I bought it, it was only $7500 new. The current mark ups are a bit high. Lovely table tho.

Thanks JJ, Kev- I was just at CDF last week, and they had the Luxman on the floor. I'm not
ready to pull the trigger, so I didn't ask them to hook it up. Plus they didn't have either
Orangutan speaker, so I will wait till next time. Simply a Gorgeous table (-: They also
have experience with the Bardo, and hold it in very high regard. Their general impression
seems to be the Brinkman is a tad more accurate to the source.

Hi, I compared the Brinkmann Bardo with Triplanar Arm and secondly with the Brinkmann Arm against the Simon Yorke S9 complete--the Yorke to my ears was superior--the only other TT I auditioned was the AMG--it was excellent and

gazumped the Brinkmann also.

I settled on the Yorke and it served me well--well worth considering in its price range. I've heard the Luxman at Philip O Hanlon's demos--lovely and smooth presentation.

As in this game things move on I presently own the Shindo 301 System which took the SY sonics to another level entirely.

Incidentally I chat with couple of Shindo 301 TT owners in the US --one wrote me he "thought" he had heard a TT combo that equaled or bettered his S/301

the Nantais Lenco Reference--can't say I've heard that--poss' an option?

Good hunting

Bruce
