I read a short news clip this morning and decided to look to see if it is real.
Sure enough it is.
A Chinese drug developer JOINN Laboratories purchased 1,400 acres of land in Levy County. This is just north of Crystal River.
There claimed intent is to import laboratory animals like monkeys and apes and quarantine them for a period of time and then sell them to the U.S market.
At this time the county is saying the property is not zoned and they can't quarantine animals there.
My question is how does this get this far along without the general public knowing?
Aside from how any of us might feel about animals kept for our own enjoyment this seems like a really bad idea.
Some of the articles are saying they are going to be breeding and testing.
Based on what we have been through in the last 2 years this doesn't seem like a good idea anywhere in our country let alone 112 miles north of Tampa.
The most recent press release is saying that JOINN would need county, state and federal authorization.
