I've been doing some searching around the web and read some reports that SED, Svetlana Electron Distributors, has ceased production of their vacuum tubes. This Svetlana isn't the same as Svetlana/New Sensor. I know that most of us around here prefer NOS tubes but I always had good success with the SED EL34's that I've tried in the past. I still have a matched quad of them. I guess they would be considered NOS now.

Has anyone else heard about this?

no sir i have not heard of this, but i was just putting the old tubes back in my hovland which i havent seen in a long while and they are svetlana.

I've been thinking about those tubes for a year. Now, all of a sudden, I want them. :panic:

Of course Bruce, that's just the way these things happen. The SED's had a real nice sparkle to their upper range but I thought the new production Tung-Sol's beat them as the best all around EL34 tube. Maybe give those a try.

Yep, SED 6550C Winged C tubes are no longer made. The factory closed in 2011 and now they produce some military equipment - I guess tube business was not lucrative enough for them :) I talked to a few people from that factory and they told me that all equipment has been removed - nobody knows where. That's a shame, the tubes were one of the very best 6550/KT88 ever produced. I got lucky and secured a good number of these tubes, so they should still be available for some time.
