Being that I'm still in amateur mode myself I'll try ...
I don't have a lot of experience with different DACs but assuming you already have some cables and you stick with modi and loki, the next question is software. I believe there is some free programs out there. I just started the digital music myself. I'm experimenting with Audirvana and Amarra. Computer Audiophile is a good online source.
I would think that the Modi and Loki would be a fine starting point for $300.

amateur question here. if i was to buy a very cheap modi dac and add the loki dsd to it, what else would i need besides that . just some storage on a hardrive? would this be feasable just to get me started on the digital road. shhh dont tell anyone im asking about digital.lol.
i mean im not looking for anything super sounding, just enough to get me started on the cheap and i can go from there. both those pieces can be had for under $300.
am i thinking correctly here??
