Savannah Trolley Tour – Stop 1 – World of Beer

So last week I spent a 8 days on Hilton Head and took a day trip to Savannah. Utilizing some of the $300 we earned sitting thru Time Share arm twisting, we took the Trolley Tour. The 1[SUP]st[/SUP] stop was for City Market. It was a little before 10am so not everything was open. Missing the actual store we were looking for and just trying to get our bearings synced up with the map, we ended up standing in the doorway of World of Beer where they were displaying all the tap handles ever used. So while we were killing a few minutes, a guy walks up and starts chatting with us about beer. After 5 minutes, he says “I’m the manager here but we don’t open until 12, but come on in”.

So he takes us in and locks the door and proceeds to pour us many samples of the 63 taps on hand. After 15 or so samples, I asked for another sample of one fine brew, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. He says “Let me pour you both a pint”. We talked more while we drank. The guy set us up with a carry bag with their logo and some swag. Also after asking more about the Bourbon Ale, he called his distributor and checked to see if they had a case and they did. We drank some more and then he asks if we like Ciders. Of course we do, so he started pouring samples of what was on tap, then started opening bottles.

So a little over an hour goes by and he pours us another one for the road. They have an open container law there as long as it is in plastic. We walked out with another pint of cider and continued our tour of the lovely city of Savannah not needing to stop for a drink at any of the places we had planned to.

When the tour was over, we drove about 8 miles out of town and found the distributor and did get a case of the Bourbon Barrel Ale for $70, but well worth it. It is like sipping the smoothest of whiskeys with a touch of carbonation. Highly recommended if you ever see it.

Here is the complete lineup they had on tap, along with hundreds of bottles.
Menus
I know there is now one in Brunswick NJ and they are supposed to put one in King Of Prussia, PA at some point in the future along with a food menu. This place had no food and no beer from the big domestic breweries, only class act brews.
So treat yourself to some fine libations at World of Beer if ever in Savannah.

Drink responsibly, but drink often….

Brian, that sounds like it was a great experience. How sweet to have the whole place to yourself to sample some great brews! To some people a beer, is a beer, is a beer. These people don't drink beer they drink flavored carbonated water. Good craft beer is like wine. Wait let me re-type that... Good craft beer is better than wine. Imagine taking just about any ingredient you can think of, adding some others and making a drink that is complex and refreshing all in one. Like a synergistic audio system, once a recipe has been perfected, there's no denying how satisfying it is.

All this typing has made me thirsty! :)

Hey Brian, glad you guys had a good time. I thought you had a time share already?

Right now we are on the Friends and Family program. We have very good friends that can't use up the amount of points they own and we usually go places together. They are having the kitchen redone in their house in Stowe so told us to pick wherever we wanted to go.

The more sessions we sit thru answers more questions as to if and how we could actually make a TS work for us. We are not the most worldly travelers and prefer to drive places if we can so that limits us a bit. I am also finding that they talk you into buying way more than you need with points. Our week on Hilton Head was only 2000 points but the least you can purchase from Marriott is 15,000 so easy to see how you can't use them unless you fly someplace every year in prime seasons.

I certainly am interested in living down that way when I retire tho, taxes on HH are reasonable and you can get a lot of house for the money in Bluffton just off the island.
