I brought the new Samsung Galaxy S7 home yesterday. It is the Gold Platinum version. Setup was a breeze. The box contained a small micro USB to full sized USB adapter that allowed me to plug my Samsung Galaxy S5 directly into the Galaxy S7 and transfer files, photos, videos, and apps without issue. The process was painless and took less than five minutes. The 32GB is a nice amount of internal memory. After everything I moved to the new S7, plus the new Android operating system, I am at 9.2GB used. I installed a 64GB micro SD card in it for extra storage. The S7 supports up to 200GB in the micro SD slot. That's serious storage capacity for a cellphone. Once all my files, photos, contacts, and apps were transferred to the new phone it took me a few hours to clean up my contacts and email addresses, cull my photos, set up several email accounts, get signed into other apps, arrange icons the way I want, set up my fingerprint security and adjust other setting to customize the S7 to my satisfaction. I also checked for updates and one was available so I downloaded and installed it.

The Galaxy S7 is blisteringly fast. The new Snapdragon processor flexes it muscle without breaking a sweat. I had five apps open at once and moved between them without a seconds delay. The phone supports split screen. You can manage two open apps on the screen at the same time, including resizing and minimizing the apps to icons that then float on any page you might be on and can be reopened with a tap.. The fingerprint scanner is excellent. Once set up you simply place your finger on the home button and the phone unlocks immediately. No more dragging your finger across the fingerprint reader. It is a much better implementation of the fingerprint scanner than previous versions and stores four separate fingerprints. There are so many unique and useful features available on this new phone. It will take me time to master the ones I want to use but it is great fun to play with the features. Did I say the Galaxy S7 is a beauty? It is quite alluring. The phone is built to a higher degree of fit and finish from higher quality materials than my Galaxy S5. It feels comfortable in your hand and the narrower width makes holding it and carrying it in a front pocket much more convenient. It also comes with a fast charger. When I plugged it into the S7 yesterday the battery was at 24%. It charged the battery to 100% in an hour and a half. The S7 also supports fast wireless charging. I am now considering purchasing the Samsung Wireless Fast Charger.

This is fun phone to own and use. I took several photos today inside and outside. The sharpness, detail, and color look excellent in both low light and bright daylight. The S7 camera, with it's large assortment of control features, creates amazing photography for a cellphone. The operating system was intuitive, especially moving from the Samsung S5 after two years. Coming up to speed on the new S7 was simple without having to read the User's Manual. I downloaded the manual for reference and will eventually get into it to discover the buried treasures. So far I could not be happier with the new Samsung Galaxy S7. I placed my order for the new Spigen Neo Hybrid case and should have it in a couple of days. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is a remarkable product.

Congrats on your new phone Dan. Ha ha....I too bought Samsung S7's yesterday. My wife choose the gold and I went with black, also did the Zagg glass protectors, I find these much nicer than the plastic type screen protectors. I also went with the Otter Box commuter outer case for mine, its not bulky and the fit and cut outs are precise. The wife went with a Spigen which too is a nice case. I'm really not into the phone thing but I must admit the Samsung S7 is pretty cool, the visual, colors, contrast, speed etc. are top notch. In comparison to my iphone 5 the S7 is much more to my liking.....

Jeff.......I think the more you use it the more you'll like it. Kind of cool that you and your wife both got new Galaxy S7 phones at the same time.

I have had my Galaxy S7 turned on since 9:30 AM and have been playing with it for hours today. I downloaded a few apps from the Google Play Store and surfed the web throughout this time. I have had the screen on for over four hours total and I just checked my battery percentage. It's 58% remaining. That's pretty good for 9+ hours energized with over four hours of continuous screen time at approximately 75% screen brightness. It seems the 3000mAh battery in the S7 is going to last longer than my S5 battery before needing to be recharged. Power management is good.

I do notice that under heavy use with the screen on for extended periods, the phone gets slightly warm. It is not hot by any stretch, but I can feel it get warm with continuous use. Beyond that the S7 is cool as a cucumber.

I chose not to use the Always On feature where the sleep screen displays a clock, or digital time, or calendar that remains dimly visible on the black screen. I wear a watch and just don't need this feature. Samsung reports that the Always On feature uses minimal battery, and no doubt some will find the feature interesting and/or useful. I prefer to save the power for actually using of the phone.

I ordered my new Spigen Neo Hybrid case last night and already received an email this morning letting me know the case shipped. That's quick. I hope to have it be Friday. In the meantime I am being ultra careful to grip the phone when I use it. It's a beauty and I want to keep it that way.

Congrats! Are you game enough to give the Samsung S7 the submergence test?

In the past these phone had a litmus indicator which Samsung would rely on to reject a warranty claim.

But now you should be as good as gold platinum!

Steve.......I can say this, I am happy to know it has a certified water resistance rating, as does my S5, but I am not willing to toss a $700 phone in the sink for curosity's sake. Should I accidentally find I have gotten the phone wet I am not likely to be too concerned but I see no reason to press fate.

I've never been one to be glued to a cell phone and pretty much a casual user but yes I can see myself utilizing the S7 features more so than I did with my iphone.....

Congrats Dan. the S7 is a great phone.

Bear in mind - all the functions on the S7 are on the older S6, so the fingerprint function is nothing new to S6 users. works a treat. Not enough of a real upgrade over the S6, so I will wait til the S8 :)

cheers

XV-1.......I agree with you. If I had the Samsung Galaxy S6, I would wait on their next iteration beyond the S7. Owning a Galaxy S5 with the ability to replace the battery, add a micro SD card, and benefit from certified water resistance, I passed on the Galaxy S6. Even though the battery isn't user replaceable on the S7, the return of the micro SD slot (up to 200GB) and certified water resistance tilted the scale in favor of me purchasing the new Galaxy S7. Samsung builds amazing cellphones. This is my third Samsung smartphone and all of them have delivered reliable functionality and service. I have no doubt their next cellphone will be equally incredible, durable, and feature laden.

This is one of the best video reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge that I have found. It is a bit lengthy but worth watching. Very informative.
