S1

No doubt there is a lot of engineering and skill and know-how behind the Magico line and they were built the way they are for sound reproduction, but the cabinets are so sterile and lifeless to me. They're just so dull compared to some of the more beautiful speaker lines out there. They may sound like a million bucks, but they don't look like it. Maybe they're better in person.

Just my .02 of course...:)

dlb2,

It's their aesthetic. It's a bling x understated thing. A lot of manufacturers go for the fancy veneers and stuff. Even Magico used to, when they used wood. Now it's all aluminum.
I don't know, I've had my share of bling, now I prefer these black monoliths :)
You can actually custom paint them, and get them anodyzed (for the models that are not by default). I saw a flashy bright orange S5 once :)

The S1s sounded great at CES last year. Show conditions are hard and anything that sounds good is usually pretty special.

Kevin's Sigma 160i Integrated amp drove them beautifully with ease and very good tight bass at CES. Everything I threw at the S1 sounded great, Jadis DA60, ARC VSi75 and Mcintosh MC275. This little 2 way does very well with tubes and I found them to be really good right out of the box, they don't require the lengthy break in of the S5.

There is a fellow at the Suncoast Audiophile Society looking to replace his Martin Logans. I told him Magico S1's (within his budget) would be ideal because they can be close to the back wall. Great speaker.

There is no way I can decide on a pair of 2 way monitors until I go and hear these somewhere first. Metallic blue!!!!

These are starting to grow on me. Unfortunately with sensitivity at 86db I would need all new amplification.
