Couldn't think of a better thread than here to write this. I am officially ruined for life, tubes have me! & to think all this time, all it took was a simple little integrated worth $5k. I was in a place where I'd listen to music & lose interest in the song halfway through, now, I want the music playing all day everyday. Solid state need not apply anymore. I find myself sitting in the sweet spot 3-5 times daily. Usually this was only late night with a lovely Shiraz etc, now, I just can't get enough of the tube goodness. DAMN, this is gonna cost me....

Kev,

It is very difficult to find solid state amplification that conveys the Emotion of music with the Capital E.
All my systems are tube based and will remain so ( except my Sugden headphone amp and my McIntosh SS integrated amp for my desktop).
And as you said, you do not need much to reach tube bliss.
Lots of SS guys keep spending more and more on their SS amps, not realizing that they actually miss something, hence the never ending quest.
Lots of tube amps owners do not move for years and keep the same amp.
When your deepest needs are fed, you know it !

Kev. I had a same experience with tubes. I was all over with expensive Naim gears and one day I bought the Manley Stingray for fun and just like you it ruined my audio life as well in good ways. Look at my signature. ; )

This little PrimaLuna has about 100 hours on it now & is really starting to bloom. I can only imagine how good it's going to get when I have this & the Line Magnetic 219ia sitting side by side on the top of my racks. One thing that made me take pause was a review m.e.p. did. I remember thinking now heres someone that knows their way around an amp or two & was smitten with the tube gear from Raven Audio he auditioned for a while. At the time I remember Joe asking if anyone had heard the new HP PrimaLuna line, it all got me to thinking & a hankering for some tubeness more than usual. I do have to admit though that hearing the 219ia was an absolute.S.E.T. ooohh yeah. Hell I haven't even got it yet & was looking to get me some tubes for a future roll :)
Yes, tubeness is next to goodness!

Hi Kev,

Wow! The PL and the LM amps will balance each other very nicely. I'd love to hear the PL now because it doesn't get any easier than that. I know what you are hearing in an emotional sense and it's beautiful. Congratulations!

Good for you Kev.

Isn't the Primaluna a push-pull design?

Some believe that Single Ended Triode is where the real magic lies.

I am very aware of the push pull analogy, obviously triode & ultra-linear are some too, We're all friends here, not needed to be remembered short of,hence my reference to the 219ia. Have you had a chance to listen to one perchance......

Prima Luna is a great line offering wonderful products and build quality. We imported them when they first became available in North America. Unfortunately when the new models came out and prices went up quite a bit here, it became hard to overcome a lot of the preconception of "Chinese made therefore must be low priced" mindset. We should have stuck with it. Today that mindset is much less prevalent as Chinese manufacturers make more inroads and prove they can compete with the big boys. Good for you sharkmouth.

Kev...congrats! Which PL integrated do you have? Bavarian05 (Jason) I believe has the PL Dialogue Premium HP (High Power) integrated and recently rolled KT-150s in the amp and was smitten. I believe he tried EL-34s and KT-120s prior and he is extremely pleased with the KT-150s. He is driving SF Guarneri Evolutions with this integrated and they are not the easiest load. Maybe something to try with your PL integrated if it can take the KT-150.

I'm thinking of auditioning this amp soon. I was not aware the DIALOGUE PREMIUM HP INTEGRATED could support the KT-150. Any idea what the power outputs are for UL and Triode mode when the KT-150's are employed?

Ralph...I don't know off the top of my head. I am sure if you send Bavarian05 (Jason) a PM, he can tell you. Hope all is well.

Cheers,

Cyril
