Been considering these subs. Over in the Magnepan Facebook forum they get some pretty high recommendations. They seem to think the direct servo system is fast and works well with Maggie's. Any thoughts on these?

Would something like this work better than the Andrew Jones designed Elac that I have? I just am not familiar with the name.

I own two pair and they are great subs. Small company outside of Austin, Tx. If you call you can talk to the owner or the Sales Manager. Jim Salk uses the guts of the Rythmik subs and builds custom cabinets for them at a much higher price.

What do you think of their basic sealed unit? Worth it or do you have to go to a higher model to get what they are about. I am not a bass hound and definitely only for a 2 channel music system.

The Magnepan guys seem to really like them.

The operational concept of the L series is the same as the higher priced F series. The difference is obviously in the cost of materials like with the two amps, equalizer options and connection options.
 
Got ya... I now see aluminum drivers, XLR inputs, more controls, larger amp.... so it is a matter if these extras are worth it... looks like a good solid product.
 
The paper drivers are actually faster as I have those on the subs in the Family Room that were bought to match the similar drivers in the Spatial open baffle speakers. The guys over at AC that are buying the Rythmik's to use with the Spatial and GR Research speakers are buying the F12G with the paper drivers instead of the Aluminum.
 
Good to know. I know the guys on the Maggy forums talk about speed of the subs for matching Magnepan. There is a F12-300 available on US Audio Mart. Do you think a L12 might be better for 2 channel with Maggie's?

PS... I think I am finally getting the MG .7's fine tuned. With the right music they are magical. The Elac seems to do a decent job but I am thinking a Rythmik might integrate better.
 
Hello Randy. I just purchased a L12 a couple of months ago to fill in the bottom end of my Egglestonworks and couldn’t be happier! I listen mostly at lower volumes and it has way more bass than I need. That being said when I do turn up the volume the bass is clean, fast, tight and has plenty of slam. It puts my old Polk Micropro 3000 to shame. I think you would be more than happy with it in your situation. Brian
 
I had a set of F12 kits for my old system. Great sub

My cousin is using a pair of F8 with his MG3.7i.
 
Nice and thank you for the input. I am thinking one of the Rythmik subs sounds like a good plan. It sounds like the paper cones might be better but not 100% sure yet. Still waiting to hear back from the person selling the F12-300 to see if it is still available even :).
 
We recently picked up a pair of the large F18-SE model for our mixed use music/movies system. Since the room for that isn't finished yet, we hooked them up to the 2-channel rig for break-in. I have to say I'm completely blown away (literally and figuratively). Seemingly bottomless reserves of power, combined with a speed and delicateness when called for. The higher end models offer more controls, which may be useful for the 2-channel user that doesn't have bass management like home theater products have. I was able to quickly dial in phase and gain to match my big Focal speakers. Don't really notice the subs (other than size) - they just disappear sonically and make it sound like it's just the Focals doing the heavy lifting. Oh, and the piano black finish is really nice - very very close to the lacquer quality on the Focals.

I've heard the REL and JL products, and have never experienced anything close, despite the Rythmiks being 1/3 the price or less. I was skeptical of buying without an audition, but I'm a fan now.
 
Randy, I have a friend that runs 2 Rythmiks with his 1.7's in a small room and they sound great. They integrate seamlessly but maybe not as good as my Martin Logans. However, the Rythmiks go deeper, play lounder, have more of that in your chest thump and are more musical and more tunable. Well worth the money.
 
I have two and am very impressed and happy. I don't quite get how the direct servo technology works but the result is great clean bass.....
 
I have never heard back from the gentleman selling a Rythmik sub on US AudioMart and the guys at Rythmik have gotten back to me answering a couple questions, so I just replied to them that I want to buy one of their subs to start. My room really is not conducive to multiple subs. I have no idea where I would put a second one.

Rythmik technician told me that he believes one of their paper cone models would be much better in my application with Magnepan speakers.... so what the heck :)....
 
The problem is that the right side is much less space than the left. Because this room we originally designed as a library and behind/next to my listening chair is a bookcase. This makes the room unbalanced, but it still sounds very good. But, there is virtually no room behind the right speaker. To top that the AC is near the right speaker and too far away to use as the main power source.

Even if I were able to slide a sub in there it would be completely obscured in the corner.

How far out do you have the back edge of the panel from the rear walls? I've seen a couple of guys on other forums tuck a couple of small subs right up to within an inch or two of each panel. One even built small wooden platforms to get the subs off the ground a couple of inches. Could you go inside each speaker parallel to the front edges of the panels. Doesn't seem to be anything on the bottom shelves that you need regular access to.
 
Hmmm... not a bad idea there... Never thought of putting subs there. You are talking in front of the rack? Hmmmmm...

Directly behind the panels sort of messes with the rear firing element of the speaker, I would think...

The panels 42" inside edge and 45" outside edge from the back wall. Oh, I just realized your other question... the distance between the stands in the rear of the speakers is about 11". The speaker cable connections are definitely an issue behind also. They are about 8" off the floor and there is no way anything will fit directly behind the speakers with the Kimber Kables.

When Jon was over he listened quite a bit (with the KEF's) and he suggested a basic sub in the far left corner to add a bit in the lower octave. Other than that he was quite impressed. Ala, why I positioned the Elac there.

I am really looking forward to receiving the Rythmik sub and seeing how it integrates with the Magnepan's. Their tech support assured me that it will be a very nice improvement.
